Make a Graphghan from a Photo using the Grid Designer

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video two facial photos are converted to graphghan patterns using the Grid Designer. These graphghan charts were used to create pillow tops for 24 inch portrait pillows. See my blog post: www.freese-works.com/portrait..., for more information on how to construct the pillows. This video covers only the construction of the patterns for the pillow tops.
Two new palettes containing a mix of different brands of worsted weight yarn are used to create the patterns. The first palette contains varying gray tones and the second palette contains varying sepia tones. The use of gray scale and sepia palettes greatly reduces the number of colors in the graphghan, making it easier work a pattern created from a photo.

    I’m still trying to understand the grid designer, which is absolutely wonderful. I’ve already asked a couple of questions before!! Question: Can you also select the ‘grayscale’ option under filters (on the left side), in addition to selecting the grays for the color palette? I noticed you didn’t use it. Soon I’ll get the hang of this so I won’t bother you so much!!Thank you in advance. I love your program!!

    Yes absolutely you can select the grayscale in addition to the gray palette. In fact here is a mention of that in my blog post for this video: www.freese-works.com/portrait-pillow-graphghans/

    You may also find that raising/lowering the brightness and contrast in the picture on the left will help find a good range of grays in the digitized picture.

    Another question : how do you add color (red, green, blue,etc.) to the gray/sepia background? I absolutely love your grid designer. Still learning but loving it. 🥰 God bless you. 🙏🏽

    Awesome, what about the numbers for the rows on the sides and top?

  • @griddesigner4331

    @griddesigner4331

    You can turn numbers on by going to Display > Show Numbering. You can change the way numbering is displayed by going to Display > More Options. When you print, the numbering is always turned on on the printing. Thanks for your interest in the Grid Designer!

    @@griddesigner4331 thank you for that because when I added the numbers they were all scrambled and crazy 😂 I’m glad that I can change them.

    Interesting. Well, they shouldn't be "scrambled and crazy". Maybe send me a screen shot if you are seeing something odd. They do automatically reduce themselves so that not every row or column has a number, if the numbers can't all be fitted in. This makes sure that the numbers are written large enough to be legible. If you zoom in or out the number of them that can be fitted along each side will change. If you have a positive suggestion for what you would like to see, let me know.

    I am having a problem to get it to go to 24 inch in the size category. Any suggestions?

  • @griddesigner4331

    @griddesigner4331

    2 ай бұрын

    I would have to look at the image and see exactly what is going on. What the problem is would depend upon whether you are trying to scale up to 24 inches or down to 24 inches. A couple of things come to mind though. If the picture won't enlarge to 24 inches, it could be because the original image my be too low resolution. Look at the size of the image under the image picture on the left to see the number of pixels in the original picture. For instance, if the picture is 200 x 150 on the left, then the grid on the right will not size larger than 200 x 150. The digitizer does not enlarge. If you need a size of grid bigger than the number of pixels in the original picture to get to 24 inches, then that won't work. I doubt this next idea is right, but if the 24 inches calculates to larger than 500 for the grid, then it will scale it down to whatever number of inches the 500 cells would come to. 500 x 500 is max grid size for Grid Designer. You should be able to scale down to 24 inches from anything. You will lose detail in the pattern, but I can't think of a reason why it would prevent you from doing that.

    You could send me more info in email. To initiate email click the contact tab at the top of the page on freese-works.com. I'll email you back and you could send me screen shots perhaps of the problem, or send me the image you are looking at and tell me what you goal is in terms of size for the final pattern.

    Can you explain more about your question? I'm not sure exactly what you are referring to. If you can refer to specific buttons or a part of the video that you are looking at, that would be helpful for me to understand more.

    There is not an app as yet, although I have been working towards that. The Grid Designer should work on tablets and iPad, etc. from a browser on pretty much any device. Open a browser on your device and go to freese-works.com/griddesigner to run the Grid Designer.

    Yes, absolutely! At the point where crochet is selected, just select cross-stitch and then you can select your canvas, sts/inch, etc. For the palette, you may want to select DMC floss or Anchor floss.

    I don't do it for a "fee", but I do do it for "free". It helps me test out the Grid Designer. I have learned a great deal from making patterns for people. I do not have time this week, as I am trying to get a new release out and a couple videos, but next week I should be able to help you out. You can contact me through my contact page at: www.freese-works.com/contact-us-at-freese-works/ and I'll get back to you with an email.
