Episode 3 video 👉 kzread.info/dash/bejne/hIGAyaeGnJbYf9I.html Nice to see you all participating. The anode metal i used is aluminum. It looks like that because i started working on air batteries around 3 months back, and that's when i poured Koh on it because of which it lost its shine. Yes, i also tried aluminum heat sinks as the electrodes, and i got the same result as I am showing here. Same for the aluminum line cables as electrodes. For me, Vmax was 1.7v per cell in one of my experiments under some very specific conditions. It's not shown in the video.

Would you possibly know how does Naoh compare to koh for electrolyte in these cells? I know it's simple enough to convert one to the other but just wondering for simplicity's sake. I can find Al and graphite on the streets picking up scrap all day and can buy a lb of Naoh at Wally world for ~6$ just koh is slightly less accessible

that is galvanized steel, (then it will be a zinc-air battery) aluminium looks like the heatsinks on your LEDs, aluminium air gives out about 2 volts per cell, and tends to fall quickly as hidroxides block the cell.

no, it's aluminium but that is not an aluminium-air battery but a voltaic pile. The aluminium has about -1.7V electrochemical potential and the carbon is just an hydrogen electrode which has a potential around -200mV because the electrolyte is alkaline so, the open circuit potential is about 1.5V. The indian knows nothing about electrochemistry.

This is really great, aluminum-air batteries look incredibly promising, i appreciate you providing excellent information on it. I have a question though, are the three carbon brushes per cell necessary? What would be the effect of less? Are you mostly just trying to get more surface area? I can't want to test this chemistry myself, but i'm tinkering with zinc-iodine batteries right now, i dont want to get too far ahead of myself!

h20 + koh + aluminium = hydrogen gas ...this is how we make H gas in high volumes very quickly! Safer, less reactive to use sodium sulphate?

try carbon fiber cloth instead, much simpler to use, resistance of graphite cloth is very low, close to zero, same as those brush carbon blocks. baking soda works even better, for aluminium-air and is non-toxic. also baking soda reacts less with the aluminium, mostly removing the aluminium oxide only, very different to potassium hydroxide, which actively produces hydrogen from the aluminium.

Lovely build brother, 1 question, won't the hydroxide environment eat up aluminium faster? Also at the end of cycle how much aluminium can be recovered from the oxides?❤ enjoyed the build

Yes it will eat up the aluminium but in the coming parts, i will share the remedy on how to avoid that. I still have to gather info on the recovery process.

@@MrElectron That's so great to hear from you, I wish we could connect, I build lithium batteries for multipurpose applications, I have been your suscriber for many years, enjoy your videos, Actually you can make a whole series of videos on aluminium air battery, using different electrolytes like, neutral, alkaline, hydroxide you already used, but even with hydroxides potassium hydroxide and sodium hydroxide both will have different voltages All the very best brother

Why dont use another electrolyte type ? KOH is very reactive to aluminium, it will release h2 gas, as losses power..

This is very cool but I'm curious why you call it an air battery. It appears to be a wet cell like some of the earliest voltaic piles used in the 18th century.

Thanks ! It absorbs oxygen from the air for metal oxidation and releases electrons from the anode. That's why.
