I lived on the Makah Reservation for six months in 1995 as a YWAM (Youth With a Mission) missionary. There are way too many memories from that experience so won't go into them, but I am so thankful I had it! The Greens made me a necklace for my birthday from the shells from their beach (forbidden to have for non-residents). It was a rustic, back-in-time, incredible place to live/learn from/partake in. After I moved to Portland, OR from there to complete my YWAM time, I chose to move next to Port Angeles, WA, about an hour from the Reservation, to work at a bed and breakfast just to be close enough to drive the phenomenal road to Neah Bay to see the native friends I made, a road full of scenes of bald eagles and giant boulders.

Thank you for posting this information! Even though I'm on the eastern coast and only related to native American ethnicity through my grandmother, I've always wanted to learn more about the western coast native Americans!

I also want to write a fantasy series that accurately represents native American people, since most main characters in fantasy are often male or female fully caucasian people. You never really see young adult series that have kids of other ethnicities to identify with or have heroes to look up too so I wanted to walk off the beaten path and show a native american young adult as the main character of a series

I was beginning to lose hope that there was any information on the Makah tribe other than 2-5 minute clips about hunting whales. Thank you.
