Totally illogical. Clearly, for it to be a mutual parting, both parties have agreed they want to move on. If De Zerbi wanted the severance pay he would have been due, he would have had to stay put and say sack me then if you want me gone. Likewise if Brighton wanted a release clause fee then they would need to hold on to him until De Zerbi comes up with a club he wanted to move too. Neither party can have their cake and eat it. For your theory to be correct, then Brighton will have had to pay De Zerbi his severance pay, with a contract in place that if anyone wants him in near future then he has to pay it back and new club has to pay the original release clause. Think about it, that would be of zero value to De Zerbi, no agent would agree to that. Far more logical that both parties have agreed to waive their contractual financial obligations to each other and move on.
