Major Taylor, the American cyclist who broke the color barrier.

Спорт

In 1899, Marshall "Major" Taylor, became the first black cyclist to win the World Championship Race. Born just 13 years after the passing of the thirteenth amendment to the constitution of the United States, abolishing slavery, he persevered through hatred and bigotry, to become a world champion! The significance of his story cannot be understated.

There are some amazing predominantly black cycling clubs named in his honor from coast to coast and from the Canadian border to the Gulf of Mexico. Thank you so much! I never knew about Major Taylor until I researched the first Tour de France, and his picture kept showing up while looking into the six day race. I strive to tell the whole story of cycling in a instinct and entertaining way, his is by far the most interesting. Sorry for not getting back sooner but I took some time off for the holidays.

Wow. I knew who Major Taylor was and thought I knew quite a bit about him but I was wrong! This is a most fantastic video and history lesson. Thanks so much for creating this! I am a mixed race product of black/white parentage. I have been riding bikes all my life since early childhood (I'm 49 now). I was a top regional amateur mountain bike racer for several years before becoming a sponsored semi-pro ultra endurance racer for nearly 5 years. Nowadays I like to focus on backcountry off road, off the grid expedition and adventure on my mountain bike. Cheers, I just subscribed. #theadventurebiker ps. I was born in Massachusetts!
