Keep in mind that the “Group” auto counts are based on my own calculations because they only give pack odds. So McDavid’s may be off by a very small amount. I say 63 autos, because that’s what the data shows, but it could be 60 or 65 or anywhere in between. Always consider margin of error. Appreciate the shout out. Nice break and great video

No worries. I hope I can send some subs your way. If you know my channel, it was forged around both sentimentality and statistical odds. Contrary to ppl's assumptions, I'm more interested in the avg box than my own box, as the odds are disclosed and we don't control the outcomes. The better educated we are, the more we can appreciate the sentimental aspects. I think your work is very important, so shoppers buy boxes and breaks based on complete info, as chasing blindly only leads to higher price points, i.e. higher risk. Re. the McDavid autos, I had a subtitle mentioning your work was rooted in simulations. I know we are missing a variable to nail the counts for card groupings. I am not even convinced UD's grouping numbers are accurate, as checklists are updated after odds are printed on boxes or retail sell sheets. I'm also very big picture and a conceptual thinker, so I don't sweat the discrepancies. The key thing to me is to articulate a few basic points that viewers can digest and act on themselves, or more importantly consider moving forward.

I always loved this product because I enjoyed how crisp and clean the design was. They weren't very busy. But this year's version I feel like it's too foil-y and disappointing. Add to it the doubling in price point, it definitely gets harder to justify. And now with all the retros they added into it to water it down, it definitely seems harder to want to buy it, but hopefully I'll hit something great when ever my package finally arrives. I didnt buy the previous year because the price hike really turned me off. I just don't know how they justify 300 bucks a box for this. The Redemption was a nice hit. I think that's the goal with this product is to hit a redemption. I believe most of the top tier FWAs are redemptions in this year. Always nice to pull 1 of the big dogs though! #Dryden

I hear you. I appreciate the purist idea of simple white cards. I do. But, SP Authentic originally was pretty foily. They had some busy designs like SPx (which I love), as well as interesting buybacks, which is how they gained initial popularity. They were born of the late 1990s and early 2000s, as high-end cards, thus they were high on design, technology and creativity. Think of Iginla's red or die-cut RC, as well as the 1995-96 foil cards, which were retros in 2015-16. So, I would expect them to continue to evolve, or nod to their actual origins, not just a myopic past decade when investors and influencers self-servingly spiked interest (almost exclusively) in them. Look how SPx was revolutionized. I personally have found the recent years of SPA mind-numbingly boring and stagnant, overpriced, and lacking SPA's original ambition and substance. They just became a safe and staid way for ppl to park money. As for retros, I wrote a short essay on my FB and YT community pages on why I would never speak negatively about them. But yes, I agree 100% on your price point concern, and the fact that UD is just cashing in at this point. This has happened cyclically at market highs of the hobby, with all the outside money and everyone getting FOMO, and piling in to chase Bedard etc.

I thought it might be Wyatt Kalynuk, not Gretzky. Gretzky's not a redemption, and only has a few cards in the entire population.

Was wanting your opinion on something I was thinking about. I buy into breaks and usually try to get the Panthers. With Knight being a bigger pull, I understood why they were costing more than usual. Here’s now my dilemma. With Knight having to enter the program and we have no idea the real reason, there’s a real possibility that he doesn’t end up fulfilling the potential he was drafted for. His cards may tank. It’s been holding me back on joining breaks. What are your thoughts on that?

Amazing question, really. I too often buy FLA, for a few reasons. They are a high octane team, Tkachuk is one of the best players of his generation (he will go first round in fantasy next year), and I just love Barkov. Plus, I collect goalies. Most importantly, FLA historically has (had) been criminally cheap in breaks. The fact is, almost all cards tank once release day hype dies. I mean, look at Zegras' Young Guns. It's a $15-$20 card raw, even though it was $100 out of the gate. But, take SPA. The benefit of that FLA spot is FLA literally has more autos in the product of any team. In fact, Knight has the most autos in the entire population. You will hit, mindful an eBay RC can often be cheaper than the break spot! I'm also high on Lundell. UD is just printing autos at this point, so most cards will come down except for a few career superstars in major markets. Equally, goalies are an absolute crap shoot. Did anyone think Saros would be a Top 5 goalie of his generation, at 5'11"? Does it even matter, as he is in NSH not NY. Keep in mind, I personally don't see cards as an investment. I think we are paying for the break experience. Even bidding on eBay is experiential. If you are serious about collecting, just wait for a reasonable price on eBay, ideally over the summer when everyone is at the beach and no bids come in. Do I personally still believe in Spencer Knight? Yes. You might not remember this, but Carey Price too had a rocky start to his career, and then he made his name at the Olympics. Knight is only 22, which is like 17 by goalie standards. Goalies often don't hit their stride until their late 20s. Can Alex Lyon be better than Knight? Lyon is 30, and he may or may not be an NHLer through his 30s. Binnington came out of nowhere, after rotting in the AHL. Crawford too to a certain extent. Look at Copley in LA. He saved their season even though he's literally been in Hershey for his entire 20s. They are a testament to how complex the position and predictions are. But Spencer has the higher ceiling, based on consistent performance at the World Juniors. Long answer is most cards go down not up. Is it worth collecting Spencer? Yes, if you can do so affordably. And buying into FLA breaks is rewarding in 21/22 due to the amount of FLA cards on the checklist. But all the Spencer cards also mean he will saturate the market, and FLA is not TOR or MTL. In fact, many FLA and TBL fans are snowbird overflow originally from MTL.

I have never seen 1 box take 16 mins to break 🤣

Ya brother. With social, you can always find the right format for you. Per my SP Legends' breaks, my channel is more about odds, storytelling, and sentimentality. The antithesis of a quick TikTok fix or meme culture. My subs also have real discussions on my threads, which I love. But I get I'm not for everyone.
