Everyone wants to go home Gary. Not just us first responders. Jeez. It would be nice if people would slow down, move over and pay attention yes. There is a lot done already to ensure this. Basically people are stupid and no matter what polices, procedures or 'threats' (ie jail time) people will simply do what they do. Until we driver-less cars come out, we are doomed to see this happen again and again. I'm a volunteer firefighter and stand on the freeway trying to get people to slow down. It sucks, is dangerous but its the world we live in mate. Grandstanding on the internet isn't going to do much. It's not a 'big problem in North America' and 'ok' in the rest of the world. It's crap all over. Driver-less cars, bring em on to stop this.... Then we have other problems, but we can discuss that later on youtube :) I like your thoughts mate, but yeah it's just what it is unfortunately.

That said, I throw signs and cones out, but people still just fly past. Too many close calls, almost had my head taken off once, always fun to be on the white line watching someone drifting towards you while paying attention to their phones.

I know they were responding to a mass casualties event, but Jesus that's a clusterfuck. You had ambulances blocked in 3 vehicles deep that had no way of getting out and more and more vehicles just kept responding. That roadway was choked up because there was no rhyme or reason to where people were stopping. You'd think that all the vehicles that weren't going to move would park to the side and leave a corridor open for the coming and going ambulances.

We dont know what happened here. If the dump truck experienced a mechanical failure then it doesnt matter what you do. Shutting down an interstate is a big deal, and to do that for every little traffic accident would cost taxpayers millions if not billions every year(the additional equipment and man power required is exponential). Lets not forget a lot of these costs are forwarded to an at fault party or insurance company... It will be nearly impossible to get auto insurance in the USA if they have to pay for an interstate shutdown for every fender bender. Not to mention gridlock the interstate system. Accidents like these are extremely rare.

Damn.... Thats a " You Better Wake Leroy Up, Cause He Ain't Never Seen A Wreck Like This Before"..... It's not really a move over. There needs to be a "No Rubber Necking Law" As a CMV Driver and a "Emergency Responder" Sometimes you just have "NO WHERE TO GO" and bad things just become worse.

Here in Orlando there were 2 recent cases of drivers who plowed into an accident scene. Both times they hit the engines which were parked strategically for this very thing, but firefighters still went to the hospital. If the rescues had been parked first like in this video, I'm sure it would have been even worse.

You're talking about multiple emergency vehicles in attendance at the scene of a previous crash, therefore with emergency lights displayed. That's something that's clearly visible for a very good distance up the road for approaching traffic. Plus most highways have some form of electronic signs to warn of issues ahead on the road. Even if the truck did have a mechanical issue the driver should have easily had enough warning to be able to avoid becoming a wreck on top of a wreck, and yet they still piled in to the mess. That is an exceptionally strong indicator for a very distracted or intoxicated driver, or one driving a vehicle that was grossly overloaded, which ANY truck driver should easily be able to identify and, therefore, refuse to drive. That very much makes it the truck driver's fault. Everyone else on that road at that time managed to avoid piling into the original crash scene...

@@gosportjamieYou are making assumptions based on where the truck ended up. Let the experts investigate the scene and make informed conclusions. There are many skid marks from the far left lane into the middle one where it appears the van was hit, then more to the area the minivan/suv and truck ended up. Too many people in this country rubberneck when they see emergency vehicles instead of focusing on the road in front of them. If that dump truck were loaded and the people in the left lane unnecessarily slowed in front of it, that could also be a potential cause.

Was the dump truck driver illegally here driving that truck? IF so, could he read any warning signs that may of existed? Again IF, an illegal was driving that truck, guess who will pay for most of the damages, NOT HIM. I May Be Wrong, but there are a lot of illegals driving heavy equipment. But they have a CDL license! Not all, but the CDL that many illegals have did not come from a qualified training school. Many get a CDL license by knowing someone that has access to a truck, gets his learners permit and practices enough with friend to pass the road test, and hired on with a driving company that a friend or relative works for. Most reliable driving companies won't hire a driver this way, without at least one year driving experience proof. It's a big enough responsibility riding a scooter on the road, more less a piece of heavy equipment. Maybe I'm Wrong. If the driver was just the average born in America, the American Joe guy and had a few beers in him from earlier, well my opinion would be, bye bye CDL license. That goes for pill poppers too, get out of the truck if you need to take more than a couple Advils to work the day. Stop thinking about yourself and look around you on the road. Alcoholics, pill poppers and illegals need not have a license, and that's illegals that may not even drink or take any pain meds. Maybe I'm Wrong.

Silver car w/ hood up hit black car w/ busted rear window, caused initial traffic slowdown and emergency veh. Dumper going too fast hit white car, pushing it into utility truck, lost control and nailed the van, squads, then amb & fire truck before rolling over. Leastwise that's what it seems like, no link to any sort of news article on this.

I have had to oppose traffic on the freeway, and due to miscommunication the freeway was not actually closed from on ramps past the incident. Let us all practice clear communication, do everything we can to prevent Citizen vehicles from being on the roadways, that way emergency personnel can respond safely without obstructions for service. I am not critiquing this call; I am simply giving input.

From the looks of this..the dump truck was most likely on the right lane and came around the turn to see an accident with probably very little notice that he had to quickly stop. It is a very bad spot to be in for first responders. As an EO I would have blocked before the turn and had additional unit respond to block behind the ambulance. I was not there. Just seeing the video and looking at the big picture. Not judging any of the units and blaming anyone but look at the video and the angle of where the accident is and where the first engine was placed. (In front of the scene and not behind it). I do hope everyone is ok

I don't think the truck was in the right lane. At several points in the video, 11:40 being a good one, you can see the skid marks starting over in the left lane. I wasn't there, I haven't read any official reports, so I don't know exactly what happened so I don't want to add to the speculation of what happened. We (the viewers) do a lot of "arm chair commanding" when we see something like this even when we don't know all the details. Hopefully everyone is alright and we all learn something from this.

That is perhaps one of the amazing things about the German Fire Service: they actually have pretty large, five -six axle, cranes, coloured in their livery, and with both lights and sirens ... As impressive as the FDNY is, with their well equiped, long body, five axle, trucks, they don't, afaik, have the same degree of heavy lifting capability. I can well imagine a crane, with a SWL of 100+ tons, would come in handy in many an incident, to lift wreckage out of the way ... I just wish politicians, over here in Britain, takes more than just a leaf out of both the American and German's books, and upscale all major cities here with the same degree of equipment that they both have ... ... especially when it comes to high-rise fires ...
