Mairi's Wedding, is also an intermediate-level reel in Scottish Country Dance, and one of my favorite dances as well.

LOVE this rendition of this classic song! And so well presented - so upbeat & lively. I am considering this song for our wedding recessional.

Mary (spelt in English was her legal name) was alive until quite recently as well Mary C. MacNiven, is even a video here on youtube of her. Was originally in Gaidhlig Mairi Bhan meaning Fair haired or Blonde Mairi, when she won the gold medal at the National Mod in 1934 to commemorate it essentially. Was later translated into English and changed quite a lot to what this is. Was the original song in Gaidhlig kzread.info/dash/bejne/eZqD1KacibzFgrg.html and kzread.info/dash/bejne/lpyXx5tyqcLHj6Q.html

The fiddle tune at the end has many names but is usually called Malcom Finlay (sometimes spelled "Malcom Findlay") for those who were wondering. John MacDonald used to play it in Cape Breton so it is a well known tune up there.

Máiri's Wedding thing is that really its the English as her name was on her birth cert. being Mary actually, was after Mary MacNiven 1905-1997 won gold at the National Mod I think up until the late 1930s was entirely in Gaidhlig something like Máiri Bhan meaning Blond Mary. Was in I think 6 years later after the song was written was the actual wedding to a Campbell who happened to be a Naval Captain. Was though in by 1959 was translated into what it is like now, plus sometime between the two was when they added the music to it.
