Colonel, this series is your best yet! Love the focus on steam, love the slow progression of time, and I love the map and how you built it. It's very easy for me to follow. A lot of naysayers say it's "spaghetti" but they're professional railroaders clearly, and this is, after all, a video game ;)

Its much easier to build a short tunnel (or bridge) if you simply plonk it down when you get the entrance where you want it, then delete 80% of the tunnel after construction, and start from the underground midpoint and aim up to the surface on the other side. That way you get a shorter tunnel and more controlled "up angle". You can also use track-double-snapping to make corners as sharp as 41km/h despite the normal bendy-tool only allowing 45km/h turns. I've made some hilariously spaghetti setups using those tricks xD And frankly, there's no reason to be as averse as you are to bendy tracks or crossovers when its literally 100m outside a station, because the trains slow down anyway. If it works it works, and the more spaghetti it looks, the more awesome it is in my opinion. In one of my stations, i have a fuel train 15 tanks long, going to the terminus station from the wrong angle (side-on), so i had to make a 41km/h overpass bridge that goes 180 degrees into the station, but a 90 degree turn to get up on the bridge first (it had to be 180 degrees to get enough distance to go up over the existing passenger lines, then down again into the station). Its hilarious, awesome, and doesnt slow down the train too much since the station is right there anyway.

I still want your save data colonel... I cant build your setup as accurately or expertly as you but would love to play along and manage your lines!! the workshop lets you share save files too :)

Very few problems can't be tackled with the terrain tool and 350 million bucks. On an unrelated note, I'm really liking how roads connect with stations and factories and truck stops and so on. It's easier to get some nice designs.

I would love to see the colonel build a monorail... someone needs to make a monorail mod!!

nice to see that colonel failure has taken time off from his busy carousing Christmas/ new year celebrations to give us peons another fix of TF2 and yes I have to give monkeys and curb your casual attitude as its getting noticed at the local society of monkey giving but I do like the spaghetti junction of rail networks that is taking shape and finally a discordant note there would appear to be a sadly lacking absence of festive decorations in the colonel failure control room [some people will not put any effort into getting with the festive program]

19:20 thats "via" city17, which means through. The tooltip shows their actual destinations. =) Also, overflow doesnt depend on if a specific line has over a certain number of passengers, but rather the platforms. Longer platforms hold more cargo or passengers. Finally, sadly in the new game it isnt really possible to grow any random city to the biggest one, since they dont grow infinitely anymore.. They have a target population set by the start of the game, and anything you do to grow it only gives a percentage bonus to that initial population.. So a city that started at 50 pop, if you do EVERYTHING to grow it, and get a +300% bonus, that city will only be at 200 pop. But a city that started at 320 pop, if you only let it have a +100% growth bonus (from random connections etc), that will grow to 640 pop... So i dont know how viable it will be to try to grow Beauclair to the largest city on the map..

Maybe the citizens got on the train bound the wrong direction because they like the bartender in the club car. If elevators (oops I mean lifts) had a libation for me I might go up when I really needed to go down. I bought two drinks on a 30 minute flight from Phoenix to Vegas.

Good job Colonel...BTW dont forget, many moons ago in this gameplay, you said you would connect the iron and coal mines to the steel mill via electric rail haulage...now that the network is (mainly) complete is it time to ditch the trucks?

Can I talk you into making some single-city train loops? Possibly in Racoon City, the capitol, City 17, etc?

imagine if some random dude started rebuilding the train lines in your country just randomly- like when the colonel said I'm not your mayor just a random dude... it would be amazing if that happened and the trains ran better.

used to in the 19th century before the British govt got this big old idea of central govt (thank labour) and create national rail. This is why (political time) we should be trying to get a smaller, well run government and not trying to bloat it out. Anything ran by the state is utter crap. Just look at your schools, NHS and trainlines (like the east and the north) that are owned by the state. Then look at the TFL and see how that is run in comparison. ps. The railway lines are owned by the govt, so the trains that are ran upon it (by private companies) are limited by that technology. In the Liverpool - Manchester line they stil run 19th century signals, this when it rains, they break or it just breaks cause they are TWO HUNDRED YEARS OLD. This is why the government either needs to fully take control and upgrade the God damn line OR, and this is preferable, LET PRIVATE COMPANIES DO IT. IT WILL COST LESS OF OUR TAX MONEY TO DO IT. TFL is still half subsidary by the govt, but it is "better" (I use this term loosely) than most network rail lines are as London (since 1986) gets pumped with money. For example last year we spent 16 BN on London trains (tube) alone, where the WHOLE northern part of our country budget was 14BN (which only created a new station in Leeds that goes nowhere and a new line that doesn't work from newcastle to norfolk.). Whilst if you created private companies again that ran their lines which they ran trains with heavy regulations and timetables they have to stick to and technology upgrades every 5 years, you would have a much better rail system across the land without it costing you an arm and a leg to go on it. You know it costs me 10k a year to go into London from where I live? I bet most people don't even earn that. Its disgusting. Yes you got me going :)

This is shorter because I have bulldozed most of my writing with the backwards deletey key of nothingness... My new reasoning for you to apply the Mr bacon patch is... You need a video of my really manly Christmas tree in your life!! you might not know it yet but you do!! I will send you a copy of a very manly Christmas tree? also, do you like dancing oranges? no? good, I don't have any... also while I have your attention I cannot turn you into a dragon either.. I'm not a Wizzard!! buuuuuut I can offer you four plastic straws!! come on it's a great! deal! ... one day I sellotaped a stick to a lemon so I could play the game lemon stick... after 20 mins of playing I realized it was not a lemon but my neighbours dog.

So here I am. Up to #28 tropical series. Surely I can work it out myself NOW!!! 🤔 🤐 🥴 NOPE> I go back to the first in the tropical series to see if I can work out what the heck is going on??@#! I just can't see your cursor... AT ALL. What are you pointing to?? Why can't I put stage coaches on my depot?? And then to work out the line.... the whole map goes white and I can't see where my depot is?? Please make your cursor bigger.... PLEASE. Do I just give up and lament the money I've spent on a game I will never be able to play, or do I persevere?? I find the UI way too small and hard to read. Advice please. Maybe you thought the people playing this game would have come from the previous games. I didn't and I'm struggling after watching all these videos, I'm none the wiser. Still haven't got past year 1... and if I can't set up a line between a farm and a food processing plant I may as well give up now. 😪 😵

This series is becoming a bit too low effort for me. Hope a new one starts soon.

@@colonelfailure Commentary is top notch as always, but it has become quite a bit of whacking and slamming in to use the technical terms ;) Which is now ending up with a lot of lines from A to B or A to C and a spaghetti instead of a thought through network. I know I shouldnt expect too much long term planning on this channel, but I think you're good enough at the game to build some cool stuff where a bit more technique and love is put into the transport network.

@@MRB1157 I do somewhat agree. Although "goods" routes with hubs, and "efficient" (i.e. income positive) train lines are much more interesting, so perhaps we'll see some of that with the Aircraft routes and also when The Colonel finally gets around to doing oil/fuel.
