@@db0800built the stand because of the Taylor Report banning standing sections, it was 4 years before Manchester won the Commonwealth Games so City had no idea the opportunity for a new stadium was gonna happen. Also, City sold the land to the council to be able to convert the Commonwealth Stadium into a football ground.

I'm not a City fan. I actually preferred Main Road to the Ethiad. Yes it was ramshackle and a mish mash of different shapes and styles but that's what gave it character. Modern stadia are just too polished and perfect.

As a City fan, same here, especially County. Would have been heartbreaking to see another football club playing there as their home ground. Plus Moss Side was too far out of Stockport really. County need to stay at Edgeley Park

As for being “transformed” with Arab money, the club badge next to your username has just passed the 1 billion mark in spending since Todd Bohely took over 2 years ago, to win precisely FUCK ALL. The new Kippax was used for only nine years. I still don't understand why City decided against redeveloping Maine Road. This so called "Etihad Stadium" reminds me more of a bank branch than a football stadium.

@@axroThe Etihad ugly? What the fuck are you on about? It’s one of the nicest stadiums in the country with modern facilities. City didn’t have the money to completely renovate Maine Road, barely had a pot to piss in during the early 2000s.

@@axroThe Etihad is one of the finest looking stadiums in Europe and a huge upgrade in Maine Road. People said the same in 1923 when City left Hyde Road. There was a campaign to not move to Maine Road as it apparently lacked the character of Hyde Road. You’ve got to move on with the times. Maine Road was once nicknamed the Wembley of the North but by the 1990s it was crumbling and was so out of shape. The Etihad is far more aesthetically pleasing and a far superior stadium. Especially given the expansion plans. I’ve been a season ticket holder at both and would have preferred to build an Etihad in Moss Side but there wasn’t enough room.

I’m guessing your young? You’re dead right, but that’s the actual point! All our stadiums were. The fact you could see different eras that cemented the love and tradition of the place These were stadiums, the new builds are arenas (as fabulous as they are without doubt) Younger people should be like - what the hell is that Funny thing is, everything is reciprocal The young of today will he asked what the hell is that by a new younger generation in years to come over many things, and the older lot will be like, I get your point, but you don’t get mine - sigh This stadium is beautiful, and it’s uneven, mix match of styles and eras and unorthodox style is the major part of that

Must be a child. Every top stadium looked like Maine Road until the turn of the millennium. In fact Maine Road was arguably the best stadium in Northern England during large swathes of its history. It used to host semi finals and music concerts, as well as World Cup games in 1966. It wasn’t a patch on the Etihad is now, by the 1990s but that’s English football stadia of the past for you.
