Maine in the Civil War
Andy P. Poulton of the American Battlefield Trust talks about the role that Maine played in the Union war effort, both on the battlefield with leaders such as Maj. Gen. Oliver Howard and Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, as well as on the home front led by the Ladies Union Aid Society.

How could this video not mention the 16th Maine Infantry and the sacrifice they made for Robinson’s entire Division on the 1st day of Gettysburg?!?!
My great-great-great grandfather,Charles Leroy Babson,16th Maine Regiment, lost his leg in Fredericksburg.....anyone knowing anything about the 16th in Fredericksburg battle PLEASE let me know.......
It's a shame that the only thing people tend to think about Maine in the war is the 20th on Roundtop... not to brush off what they've done but there were more than just one regiment worth talking about.
that final statue looks like my home town of Westbrook, down at the park (Riverbank Park; THE park) where the Memorial Day parade would always end.
Did miss the sacrifices of the 16th and 19th Maine infantry at Gettysburg or that the 10th Maine Battalion was 12th Corps headquarters guard during that battle. I know he did mention Chamberlain but he did leave out that J.L. would be promoted to Major General by 1865 and was given the honor of receiving the stacked arms of the A.N.V. after the surrender at Appomattox..
Great video and history as always! Keep them coming!
Great video! I had 3rd great uncles in the 9th and 20th.
Thank you for sharing, love Maine History!
Certainly give you a wider context of what Maine actually contributed thanks for the video.
