as an Amazon Delivery Driver, if your dog threatens me, you will NOT get your stuff if its not handled. Sorry but not sorry. I had a loose neighbors dog almost prevent an entire block from not getting their packages. Keep your dogs inside. I will NOT hesitate to move on to the next delivery.

Almost attacked yesterday. My vans door and VERY loud horn saved me. Nearly prevented an entire block from their stuff from being delayed, luckily the customers confronted the owner and contacted me. I redelivered ( albeit, very late at night ) that block because I am a nice guy :)

Nothing like not getting that important mail you’re waiting for because the jackass across the street can’t keep his crazy dogs controlled. Had a stupid dog once that really went crazy over mail carriers. Would go nuts when the truck drove by. One day she got out and ran for the carrier across the street. That lady didn’t hardly bat an eye, just pulled out her can of mace and had it in position right as my dog got there. Blam , got her right in the eyes. I said ‘ that’s what you get, stupid ‘.

pffff 8 years of service.......on my 25th year in the most low income "The Hood"neighborhood in Florida and when the dogs act up no one gets mail and I tell the neighbors why, problem gets solved in a few hours

I almost shot a dog the other day because it chased me in my house. I was outside with my two kids and I seen the dog so I told my kids to go inside (Kids are two and four) as soon as I got near my front door the dog ran up to me and started growling and trying to bite me. I was literally standing between the dog and my front door trying to prevent him from getting in my house to my kids. As soon as that little FKER Started snapping at my leg and trying to get in my house I pulled my Glock out and cocked it back in as soon as I did the owner came running up yelling at me begging me not to shoot him. If you’re going to have a pitbull or any other dangerous breed don’t let it run loose and actually take the time necessary to train the animal otherwise you don’t deserve it. That’s like having a firearm and being reckless with it. That’s not the only time I’ve had an encounter with a dog, my little Chihuahua got attacked by a pitbull and we beat that dog for 10 minutes trying to get them off of my dog and when I say we beat it I mean we were hitting it with sticks, stomping him and he still wouldn’t let go until I stuck a 12 inch K bar in his shoulder then he finally let go. Then to my amazement the owner came up mad as hell because I killed his dog trying to fight me so I left to rushed my dog to the animal hospital ( She survived with 27 Staples on her back) and my friend who stayed behind and ended up knocking the dude out and leaving him laying there next to his dead dog for running his mouth, that and it doesn’t help that me and my friend on top of my dog got bit trying to pull them apart. So Let this be an example to anyone out there who has a dangerous dog just to make you look like a bad ass. Just FYI it doesn’t, it makes you look weak and it puts your dog and everyone else at risk if you don’t respect it. I’ve had so many encounters like this it’s not even funny that’s why I don’t go anywhere without something on me. I’ve got two kids that I’ve got a watch out for and I’ll be damned if somebody’s dog grabs a hold of one of my kids because at that point the owners have to worry about their health as well and no one wants that so please everyone keep your big ass dogs on a leash or don’t get one.

Yep our family dog bit a family member because the dog really didn't know them. Dogs can turn on the owner what make them think their dog don't bite.

I am currently a FedEx driver and got bitten twice. We banned those customers and do not deliver to them and their nearby houses, they have to come pick up from terminal, if the package is from FedEx. Plain and simple, keep your dogs inside!

My dog is inside and cant get to anyone. He barks but no danger to the carrier. Do your damn job and stop being afraid of a dog who cant hurt anyone outside of my house. No mail for 2 days now and I missed getting a part for my truck because the pussy ass mail person is afraid of a bark. now I've had to cancel 2 high paying runs because of this cant do your job. I understand if a dog can actually get to you but I take extra steps to make sure my dog cant unless you break in my house...then my dog will do his job

It's incredible how homeowners allow their dogs to be out ready to attack. I'm a postal worker and if your little pumpkin is roaming the yard, you can go pick up your mail, cuz I'll never stop at your house. He may be sweet to you, but he's growling at me ready to tear me to pieces. I don't think people understand the huge liability rover is gonna cost you if he attacks a mail carrier. The post office will come after you (they're the federal govt with huge resources to sue you in court) and postal carriers will sue as well. Is he still cute?

Veronica, you don't want risk your body to these beasts the dog and the owner. No matter how pocket change or billions if you get disabled or desfigured. Prevention is the best. Don't deliver to these monsters. Carry a taser, pepper spray, vinegar water bottle, bang snaps, high frequence sound, airborn, and the list goes on. Don't trust.

I live out on a dirt road. I like to know if someone is pulling in. My 3 outside dogs will bark and howl their lungs out to let me know someone (like the mail man) is coming, but they’ve never once bit anyone. I feel like cities might be different tho I dunno

⁠@@wilhorne4881 Those are tricky and I understand why dogs would be out and about on those properties. Maybe have a box by driveway entrance to put the package in? A lot of homes I deliver to have that and I’m told to put the package there because of the dog problem

I've been a carrier for 29 years never been bit but I have had some extremely close calls. People are very careless with their dogs in this day. Stop opening the door with the dog at the door! I've had several friends suffer vicious attack with life threatening injuries. And all pitbull owners should be registered because some of them are the stupidest dog owners I've ever seen!😡 Even a quite seemingly docile dog can become extremely vicious with your carrier! Properly secure your dogs people at all times! To all my fellow letter carriers thanks for what you do everyday everywhere in every kind of condition, much respect and love to you and your families!😘

Reimbursement they should be charged with a crime it's not just the mailman or woman it's neighbors kids at bus stops keep your dam dog in your house or yard and put your mailbox outside..

Dog owners have three options IMHO.. #1: Secure their dog when the mail/packages arrive (USPS/FedEx/Amazon/UPS) and let everyone go away happy! #2: Let the delivery driver 'defend' themselves and YOU as the dog owner cover the cost of few $1K at the Vet because said 'driver' used MACE/Pepper Spray/Baton to ward your dog off #: Allow your dog to BITE said delivery driver and FUND THAT DRIVERS EARLY RETIREMENT!!!

Also pest control people that come to your home to spray around your home are at great risk. I know one guy he had to abandon his job in a very short time, and he started having PTDSD after dogs jumping out of nowhere when he was spraying the stuff. It's a very crammy job dealing with chemicals and monster dogs.

i always hate it whenever i would pass by a block and then a loose dog would bark at me and then the owner would tell me "he's friendly" i was always wtf? if i get bitten, say you'd pay for my injections and stitches but the physical pain and trauma could never be covered by money.

This explains a lot. I live in an old neighborhood, and dogs often run amuck (love that word) There are days when I swear the mail carrier missed my street. Now I know why

I used to deliver FedEx. My solution was steel toe boots. I was approached by a dog attempting to bite and lets just say that dog had one less front tooth when I left. Hard boots, mace, and a pocket weapon aught to teach people a lesson about them animals they purchase. Your personal safety is more important than some animal that people have no business with anyway.

Most dangerous dogs are amateur attackers. So that would work on most of them, but if you meet a weighty and trained attack dog. Mace wont stop it.

@@Lobos222 you are correct.i came across a random sidewalk dog fight.tried to separate, sprayed them with official pepper spray and they became MORE viscious.

I drive for FedEx. Alot of the rural/country homes let their dogs free roam their property while they're at work. If you're dog seems like it will get aggressive with me, your packages are going back to the terminal to be delivered another day.

I had a small dog charge me when I was on the sidewalk just yesterday. I asked someone if they knew whose dog it was and they said they'd never seen it before. I put my foot up and yelled at it with my hand on my blow horn. It backed down and a minute later I heard a lady calling for it. She was visiting someone on the loop. People have no clue.

See I have attempted to ask them to leave packages by my mailbox which is roadside and I’m on a private road so no one is coming back here and they refuse because it doesn’t fit in the box...

I just got bit yesterday delivering my route. This is my second time getting attacked. I’m ok but got put on antibiotics and now have a large gash on my leg and pretty shooken up . People please if ur dog is outside keep them on a leash. This is emotionally traumatizing and painful and 99% avoidable!!!

I've been bitten, not fun. And no it wasn't my fault even though Management likes to blame the Carriers for everything, especially idiot in the District pushes a stupid idea or screws up.

OK, as a Mail Carrier myself I can firmly say she's not telling the whole truth in that a lot of us absolutely LOVE the dogs on our route. And just because a dog is outside doesn't mean we won't deliver there or to the street. Now that said, if it's an aggressive dog we can and do have the right to stop delivery to that house and the street, especially if it's a walking route. And if people don't like it get rid of or lock up the dog. If it's your neighbors dog well, sorry, bout your luck seek legal and / or civil solutions in the courts.

true, if youre the regular, you know the good ones and the bad ones, but i dont expect subs to know. i case dog warnings in, with notes (friendly, not friendly) but tell them if they wanna skip it, skip it. ill handle it when i get back

I meet the delivery people outside and get my stuff over the fence if my dog is outside. Usually, though, I keep my dog inside until after delivery, my boy is sweet but protective; our postal carriers deserve to feel safe, they're helping us out!

I hope you don’t open the door with your dogs right there at the door with you or close by where they can run out the house out of your control. Thanks for understanding that mail carriers and people need to be protected cos dogs are dogs at the end of the day they can attack an innocent mail carrier/delivery person or even someone walking on the side walk.

5 years and have had some close calls. Was walking back to my LLV and 4 dogs came out of a house. One started to jump up on me and another started fighting with that one. Luckily they just fought and bit each other. Another time, I was doing of a parcel on a front porch and I could hear the dog barking, as I was walking back to my LLV I hard the door open and the sound of claws running and owner screaming for it to come back. I ran and jumped in to LLV as this big Doberman jumps on the door after I closed it. Don't open door if you can't control your dog. Give us time to leave before you open your door. I hate seeing small kids walking a dog they obviously can't control walking towards me.

@@UnrealButcher facts, that's why I don't deliver to people who have their door open but storm door closed and their dog sitting in front. IDC if it's a tiny dog, you may have 3 or 4 dogs and they may open the door and attack me, and if you think I'm gonna get bit over your mail, you're an idiot lol. I've stopped delivering to people who do things like that, eventually they get the message and keep their damn door closed. Nobody wants to get bit because you think your dog is so friendly, don't get me wrong tho I've seen some large dogs that very friendly and nice and relaxed but that's like 2 out of 100s on my route lol. I'm switching my craft soon tho. Delivering mail sucks.

Im a new carrier, 5 months on the job. Had 5 close calls and let Post Office know. Today, I got bit and still the Post Office seems to not care. If fact I was asked these 2 questions.... 1.Did you honk your horn? 2. Did you walk backwards away from the dog? I am not mad at the dog for being a dog, I mad that the owners ordered a package knowing that I have to drop it off but left their dog out anyway. The town I work in all mail boxes are curbside unless dropping of packages and if you have an aggressive dog your packages will be left by your mailbox or you can pick them up there is no other options

I see alot of postal workers here. So i have a question so we were told the mail man was bitten by my sisters puppy on the leg. The puppy is loose in the front house its fenced and has chicken wire and the mail box is high and practically out side the fence . What will be done and what can happen. Will we be able to receive our mail again?

was delivering and some lady let lose her 4 dogs while i was still walking to the car. i had to run to the car and then struggled to leave, because her dogs were running all around my vehicle and i was trying not hit them while backing out.

2 main things. 1-your dog should not be outside unless it's on a leash AND not interfering with delivery. Keep it away from around the mailbox and where the mailman walks. 2-your front door needs to be closed until after your mail has been delivered in the mailbox. Letting your dog jump at the door could cause the door to open and the mailman doesn't know if the door is latched.

My husband was a mail carrier for 30 years, he was bitten twice, his UPS vehicle held hostage by a pit bull until the owner of the dog got the dog under control. He also ran form one only to get his leg caught in a metal pipe buried in the yard for some reason. It is imperative that people contain their pets safely for all. My husband was out of work for each injury and workers comp is a joke.

I can hear it now, I couldn't deliver because the dog was out when there was no dog. Delivery people these days are at the bottom of the "social barrel"!

I once almost got attacked by a large pitbull at the age of 11 but lucky for me and unluckily for the mailman cuz as soon as he spotted him he forgot about me and went straight for the mailman but good thing the mailman had pepper spray that helped him a lot😁👍

I've already had a handful of encounters with loose dogs. Most of them are either friendly or just pissy Chihuahuas waiting on me to turn around.

Remember, some owners are losers, don't have any money, they leech the system, they don't work, maybe also they sell drugs(the money has to come from somewhere) and these owners decide to buy a pitibull dog, and you see the dog alone with children, the dog barks at residents inside the bldg. So how you will sue this loser and leech to pay? the best way is to report him that he might scamming the system or selling drugs and you get rid of the moron, hazard individual.

Dogs are not supposed to be loose or be in a yard where they can jump out or escape. You would rather the mail career or delivery person is attacked and bitten with possibly life threatening injuries and deformities. It’s against the law to have your dogs loose even in front of your house as they can run off(doesn’t matter how much they have been trained , a dog is a wild animal and you can’t predict that they are going to behave , follow directions,) , get out of your sight and control if they see neighbors, people , kids down the street

@@99SVTBolt cause I always forget plus I use it as an excuse to leave the package at the mailbox there is maybe 2-3 people on my route where I leave there packages at the box plus I figure I'm saving them from a lawsuit because the next time I get bit by there dog's I'm suing.

Box cutter? That would be good for deterring and scaring chihuahuas away. What if you encounter a pit bull? A box cutter isn't going to be sufficient. You need a KA-BAR or Bowie knife!

The bad dog owners won’t get it, I don’t know if they think it is funny. They should try to deliver some packages. Hate dogs (all of them), I just delivered 4 times for Amazon and I don’t think I do 5 after almost attacked reallly bad by 2 black dogs. As a college student, no work, need to make a living, then the worst part thing is dogs! Some people don’t respect the delivery drivers or mailmen that delver them their needs, I don’t know what to say or how to say it, but I have a lot in my heart I cannot write them all in words :(

Some of the older areas still have them up by the house. Even still carriers have to get out and deliver larger packages that don't fit in the mailbox.

i've carried for two years. got bit once which was no big deal. but my coworker got her face ripped off. its not a joke. your dog isnt our dog. we dont have the same relationship. all dogs bite. dont force your dog onto other people because you love dogs. dogs are cool but do you want your fucking mail or not? not complicated.

Usefull advice, introduce your dog to postal and other ppl, train them that only aggressive ppl are a danger, my pitbull only tagged aggressiveness,

I put my foot down when I was a carrier. I trained the owners. Document any encounters and put the screws to them uo to them.

One thing I notice is most people who own dogs don't even have a gate. That needs to be a requirement. Because when the dog needs to go out and do it's business, the irresponsible owners just let them run free and while they sit in the house.

I delivered mail for 30 years have been bitten twice and sprayed many dogs with mace. I also sprayed one upset customer over his dog.

Dogs are like people, they can snap, have a bad day. Step accidentally on a old dogs foot etc. It's like owning a gun you have to be responsible.

I remember a few years ago, I was delivering a parcel to this address. Customer open her door and this big ass dog started running toward me full speed. I drop her parcels and ran toward my truck as Im running a tree branch almost took my eye out. The whole time all I can hear is the customer screaming " don't worry he wont bite he's friendly"🖕

i am glad my mail person my dog get along. we have a system. i keep a bag of Maggie's treats in the box and if she is out when the mail comes she gets a belly rub and a treat and it happy. where i used to live the mail man was afraid of dogs. me and Maggie where out side when he told me she couldn't be outside. i explained why she was barking at him. that she will bark until he pets her. it took a few weeks but now he likes Maggie. she is literally all bark. and even if she did try to bite how much damage can a toothless wiener dog do.

There is nothing funny about that. Some people like myself are scared and terrified of dogs . I have had bad experiences with dogs . I don’t want to pet them or be anywhere close to them. It helps to secure your dogs , don’t force

We have a french bulldog, sure enough no incident and no more mail delivery. I tried to comply with relocating the mailbox but they are forcing up to sign their vicious dog letter. It's sketchy in my opinion to be forced to sign something stating our dog is a threat. Oh yes the other option is providing proof we "got rid" of the dog. WTF

Pet Owners have become ridiculous, they don’t have “Dogs” anymore they have “Fur Babies”! There is absolutely nothing wrong with your dog being part of your family and loving them... After all dog is man and woman’s best friend! Anytime anyone asked me, “Does your dog bite?” My reply is always the same... “Occasionally!” I don’t let anybody pet my dog, my reason is simple, l have always owned large dogs, a dog that could easily rip your arm off! Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Doberman Pinscher, Kangal Shepherd and German Shepherds. These are NOT traditionally vicious dogs and do not have bad reputations... However, they’re still dogs! If my dog thinks you’re a threat to my safety he will bite you... Or your two-year-old toddler running up to him trying to jam his lollipop (and arm) down my dog’s throat! Yes, that actually happened! No, my Rhodesian Ridgeback did not bite the child but, he did keep lollipop! 🍭 You may have the friendliest dog in the world... However the Mail-carrier is walking onto your property... So of course the Dog is going to bark or try to intimidate or bite anyone invading their territory. There’s a simple solution... If you own a dog, put your mailbox at the curb!
