Im up on Turtle. I got that same Merc 40 Big Tiller on an older Sea Nymph 165, its almost too much. Definitely a handful if im not careful and I almost feel its too much for a 500lb boat. But over all I love it. Definitely looks great, feels and sounds powerful and I like the feel of that big handle.

Thanks for the video Kevin. I just bought the same boat at bass pro. I pick it up on Monday. I’m looking forward to some crappie fishing here in north Ms. I hope the 40 horse merc works out ok for me. Happy fishing.

33mph....I do not know if a jackplate voids any warrant...cannot see why. I bought a new jackplate but have not installed it quite yet. This spring.

My Tracker Grizzly 1448 does 28mph with two fat guys aboard with a E tec 25HP short shaft. I thought with 40 HP you could go faster? That's in California about 1000 feet above sea level. I think with SS prop she would go 30mph. Are you thinking of an SS prop next.

@@malibujoe01 I'm in Wisconsin....no...no SS prop....they won't make it any faster...just won't get as dinged up. After the breaking in period, the motor dropped to about 30mph top end.... someone damaged my lower unit in August and I got a new prop installed with a different pitch...and now it's even slower. I had a 25hp merc 2 stroke on my 1448 Alumacraft jon boat...much lighter than this....it ran about 24mph top end..... this is a pretty heavy boat...I was surprised how heavy...hard to pull up on shore. Lots of insulation add to the weight....as well as two batteries and all the equipment.... it's a 1654.... this spring, an Atlas Micro Jacker will be installed. May help with speed also.

@Kevin McMahon Thanks for the quick reply. You motor has up and down trim already right? Does a Jack plate make that much a difference? Also will you have to fill in the holes in your transom from original non jack plate install of your 40 HP Merc OB? Take it easy Sir !

Also in your opinion my Evinrude Etec 25 is pretty fast on my 1448 Grizzly@ 28mph with two 200lbs plus Men. I'm sure with just me it would go over 30mph, but I have always taken it out with a friend ,as I don't have a cool dog like yours

How sturdy is the boat and also how does that 55pound terrova push the boat?

Very sturdy due to how wide it is. The 55 terrova seems plenty to pull it around ...even in strong wind or currents.

yes...the water moccasin comment was a joke.....you have to live up here to get it...lots of tourists see a snake and immediately think water moccasin.....they don't get this far up North. 😆
