Mahindra S11 Pickup Tows Jayco All-Terrain: Real-World Test Through Townsville's Rugged Terrain

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Join Chris Ave from Mike County Mahindra for an in-depth towing test of the Mahindra S11 Pickup, featuring a 13-foot Jayco All-Terrain off-road van weighing around 2,120-2,200 kilos. Starting from Four Wheel Drive Central in Townsville, we embark on a challenging journey up the Mangla range to the Burdekin Dam and back, putting the S11's towing capabilities to the ultimate test in real-world conditions.
Discover how the Mahindra S11 handles the hilly terrain, its fuel efficiency with a hefty load, and its overall performance on a trip that covers approximately 180 kilometres of varying elevations and road conditions. With a keen eye on coolant temperatures (unfortunately, transmission temperatures couldn't be monitored), and after a series of climbs, including a steep 12% grade, Chris shares his initial impressions and the vehicle's handling characteristics under load.
Spoiler alert: The S11 exceeds expectations, towing the sizable caravan easier than anticipated and demonstrating commendable fuel economy under demanding conditions. Final fuel consumption figures come in at 17 litres per 100 kilometres, a respectable figure given the challenging terrain and hefty caravan in tow.
Not just a test drive, this adventure also offers a glimpse into the picturesque surroundings of the Burdekin Dam, a popular spot for camping and water skiing, hinting at future explorations with the boat in tow.
Whether you're considering the Mahindra S11 for your towing needs or simply interested in seeing how this vehicle performs under pressure, this video provides valuable insights and a thorough review of its capabilities. Join us for this towing adventure and see if the Mahindra S11 is up to the task!

Hi Jonesy, good to see you're first cab off the rank to support Chris and the Pik Up. 2100kgs, up hill and the NQ heat/humidity allows for some solid testing of the little 2.2ltr and for the record I don't pay any attention to the likes of Dmax owners and their thoughts toward fuel economy. Hope all is good in W.A. mate. Regards, Nathan.

@@nathankelly1708 pleasure Nathan. I always look forward to the next upload. I recently took the new rogue for a test drive and consumption is no better than the Mahindra. Interestingly the two almost neck and neck in a drag race with my S11 having an open canopy mounted on the Tub.

Good to hear from you mate:) We ended up going with a Musso lwb with leaves rather than the trusty Pik Up, a Mahindra head office decision had us cancel our order but still carry all the respect for the Indian mule. We looked at a second hand '18 Lux w/146k on the clock at 46k which would have near on been our Mahindra Work Pack with canopy fitted, EFS upgrade and other good bits. Whether Pik Up or Musso I still can't see how the likes of a 73k GR Lux can be justified.

Even allowing for the terrain I would be horrified by 17L/100kms. I have a 2021 MUX towing a Jayco dual axle 2.4T PopTop and the worst I have ever got was 15L/100kms. Another point, obviously the van is wider than the car. If you want to be taken seriously then fit towing mirrors so you have legal and proper rear vision.

"Horrified" by an extra 2l/100. Okay. My 200 does 15-17 without towing :)

The jayco all terrain is not wider than the car it's under 2mts in width to track behind the tow vehicle on narrow bush tracks. The mirrors on most vehicles protrude beyond the width of the van making it legal to tow without the need for towing mirrors.

The in ride cab view looks rough as guts. No one is really gonna use these for anything other then a super cheap work car that last a couple of years and get a new one.

I'd suggest a bit of camera shake isn't helping we towed a camper in our Pik Up around SA / NT for 4,800km and felt fresh after every day

I know a guy in Townsville and no not Mike Carney. Had a S10 manual dual cab Mahindra and he also had 2018 landcruiser dual cab V8 manual. He had a contract up the cape too do with power upgrade. Now he told me that he preferred taking that S10 up the cape for work as to that over priced bucket of shit 2018 landcruiser he had. And when the family and kids went camping at hidden Valley the kids want to take the S10 because it had more room in the back rear cabin seat. He said he absolutely loved taking that S10 up the cape for work and loaded to the hill. He said would of still had the vehicle had his young fella had not rolled and end for ended it.
