One thing that has to be said, is that the Luna, Mertailor, and Fish Fin, they are all silicone. The Mahina is made of recycled rubber tires so it is definitely harder than a silicone. I have both the Finis Luna and the Mahina and love them both. The Mahina is perfect for free diving and is PADI approved for free diving. If it is too snug, I know folks that have shaved small amounts of the rubber and used a fine grit sandpaper to smooth it. I generally do not need to wear a swim sock or bootie with mine so I have a very good fit with mine. I am a size 8-8.5 US sizing normal width. I actually purchased my Finis Luna because of Courtney’s love of it.

Finding a monofin is lowkey like being Cinderella: you gotta find your perfect fit! For me, the Mahina gave me asinine amounts of pain due to my high arches and thin ankles. I've got a lot of leg issues due to YEARS of being a competitive athlete, and I can feel every one of those issues rearing its head on TOP of the blisters. However, my significant other (who has the strong, calloused feet of a hobbit and is a sturdier person than me lol) loves it. On a different note, I got the Luna based off your recommendation and it's been fantastic! Substantially helped with comfort while swimming and has kept all my fickle leg pains at bay while swimming!

EXACTLY! It's totally like Cinderella and the perfect fin is out there! That's the beauty of there being so many options available these days!

My issue with it is it has been on the market all these years and people have ALWAYS complained that it’s uncomfortable, and yet, no major design updates. 🤷🏻‍♀

I love my mahina with dive socks (agree that socks are A MUST)! Such a good fin. Love the fluke shape but it is heavy and big. I take mine on public transportation and feel so conscious about it.

Always awesome to see everyone's thoughts on different monofins! I have to agree with the Finis as well, definitely my favorite one so far out of all the fins I have/had. Also glad to see the FFToo has been doing well for you!

The mahina Pro (adult XL) was my first fin, and I still love swimming in it over the others I have tried. It feels like a great alternative to a pair of basic snorkelling fins i also have. The speed, the power is just *chef's kiss* I always try to make sure to wear socks because the back of the ankle blisters suck otherwise 🤣 I have long thin size 11 women's feet and thin ankles so I guess it suits better? Whenever I try to use adjustable straps on diving fins or monofins it's so difficult to keep on. Which is why I love the mahina, snappy comfy tight to keep it on my feet. I've found that the finfun pro, although once squeezed into the monofin itself, has given me more problems with my ankles hitting together over the mahina. I still love the flow feel for mertailor monofins, love the second skin attachment of finfun but mahina takes the cake for me overall.

Ooo! I remember when I first took my Mahina to the pool... After one kick, I hurt my lower back, I think I pulled a muscle or two, had to stay away from swimming for a few weeks! How I hurt myself is, I think when you transition to using a bigger monofin (my main monofin at that time was a Finis Foil), you have to swim in a slightly different way. With the Foil, my kicks were shorter and faster. With the Mahina, you have to kick, wait a little bit then kick again. I felt that I couldn't do a continuous up and down motion with such a big fin.

I've always loved your takes on monofins. Aside from my first few (homemade, finis rapid, fin fun just for something easy) I've bought all my monofins on your recommendation. First the Linden, then the Luna for easier travel, and finally the Fish Fin last year! It's always wonderful hearing your fin opinions and knowing that there's a reviewer who tends to share my general tastes.

The best of the mahina is the zoom. Zoom zooom zooooooooooooooooom! Super fast. The downside for me is that I have a rather dramatic latex allergy, so swimming with this thing needs gloves and neoprene socks and extreme caution and that just sucks all the fun away. Can't relax and swim with anaphylaxis hanging over you. For what it's worth, the foot pockets on this are basically my feet. It fits like a glove. Super comfortable. Those nobby bits on the ankle strap just fit in the hollows around my ankle- truly feels made for me. Luckily the Fish Fin is basically the same foot pocket.

Another thing to note: the mahina is made with a latex rubber. While I did like mine when I had it because of the propulsion; I was constantly in pain since my ankles were so close.

Super informative video! ^_^ I got to try a Mahina just a few weeks ago for literally 30 seconds and gosh... after the Luna, it felt weird as all heck! Those close footpockets didn't feel great either, but I did like the propulsion. I might get one in the future when I'm feeling flush, but until then, I sure do love the Luna! :D

Haven't used this monofin before but I was always attracted to the size of it and the idea of how fast I could potentially swim. However, I don't have a place vast enough to do a proper speed test. Aesthetically though... I could definitely sit around in this fin and feel fabulous, but I feel like it wouldn't be worth the money XD

Thank you for such a great review! I've never been a fan of this particular mermaid monofin. The shape is just very off-putting for me. When I learned it was made of natural rubber I had to say no - I'm allergic! This means I can't wear many of the monofins on the market, so the Luna felt like a godsend lol. Glad to know this fin is also a no for other mers. Comfort is also my main decider for a lot of things, Fins included!

The shape really isn't for me either but you can be pretty creative when it comes to hiding it in expanded fluke shapes. Agreed about comfort! COMFORT IS KEY!

I got one. And I couldn't agree with you more about all points discussed. I bought it because I felt like the shape would be great in a Nereid studios skin. I love the silhouette, but the monofin cramps my feet up like no other. And the sizing is tricky, it is much more wearable with scuba socks. I sort of wish I never bought it 😢

I was so surprised to see you have the fantasy too monofin added in your collection. I have the three but wish I had made the smarter choice by get the two . I also have the mahina which I use for my pirates tail , so far I've had good luck with it and crossing my fins it stays that way ha 😄 but I love hearing what other mers have to say about it I find it useful!

My arches are too high for the Mahina. It EATS my feet up and spits them out. Plus I’m a sucker for a fluke with flop so it’s double out.

Thank you for your thoughts! I’m about to take a PADI mermaid class and my instructor highly recommended it but I kinda want a Finis Shooter instead. Just a feeling I wouldn’t care for Mahina personally so your thoughts really help me decide.

I have the fantasia fin by Mertailor and I love it!!! It does weigh 5 lbs though. I also have the Linden monofin which is lighter and nice when I don't want to use the 5lb fantasia. I really found your video informative on the Mahina. A lot of silicone tails use it inside and I wanted more info on it. I heard is was uncomfortable and you pointed that out. If you are out in the open ocean in the Mahina I hope you don't bleed from blisters! Thumbs up!

Ihave both Mahina and Lucia fishfin. At first the Hahima was super uncomforable for me, but after few swims it changed. The Mahina is super fast! When I used the Lucia fin I felt so slow!! Also the Lucia fin got damaged after one try on! ( luckly they sent me new one and it is on its way(: ) The Mahina is really easy to carry around, easy to storage - since it can be folded to half. I am a bit afraid to fold the Lucia fin so I am not sure how to storage it. The Mahina is not for any fin, its perry for spesific fins . Lucia fin can be worn on its own! Dam I love the shape so much!

Question: would a person with smaller feet find this fin decently comfortable? I've only ever used the adult Fin Fun monofin but my feet are so tiny (size 5) that they move around an annoying amount. Since I have such small feet, would the fin be decently comfortable for me as compared to an adult with normal-sized feet? Thanks, your channel has been really helpful for my mer-journey!

It's a super narrow fit so it really depends on if you have small narrow feet or small wide feet. I have size 11 feet but my feet are super narrow so I fit into this fine (despite the fact that it's just generally very uncomfortable). I'm so sorry I can't be more helpful with the sizing side of it!

I didnt experience a lot of problems with pain and I loved the propulsion, but I was just not a fan of the shape. I ended up selling mine but honestly I regret it. I think I may need to get another one.

Courtney I have a question I got my granddaughter a Lucia monofin and I was wondering what tail cover I should get her??

I've always Said the mahina is the bullet proof monofin, you could throw that thing out a plane and it would be fine. But it is definitely the most uncomfortable fin I've used, my mahina has taken chunks out my ankles. I wish the fish fin fit my feet better but the pockets are sooo narrow and uncomfortable so it's a sad no from me.

What fin do you recommend? I just bought a Mahina! I don't want to risk hating it

I have such an intense love-hate relationship with my mahina, it’s beautiful and I love how I can move around in it but it’s so uncomfortable, I always end up with blisters and sore feet not to mention my feet being pushed together but I’m so glad I have it in my collection

I bought the Mahina for myself and I can't agree more about the comfort being an issue... I've got torn ligaments at both my feet and swimming in those longer than 10 minutes really strains my legs so bad... But I can't find any other fins to buy in Germany...Maybe you could make a video on where to buy fins online even from a foreign country?

The mahina gives me horrible foot cramps in my arches. I'm flat footed and have wide feet, so that probably has a lot to do with it. It looks great, goes fast, but I just can't swim in it more than 20 minutes or so.

I've been planning to get a Mahina but I'm concerned about the sizing accuracy and fitting. For reference, I have a Women's US 5 shoe size. The adult monofin's smallest is at US 6-8; but the kid/junior monofin's largest is exactly US 5. Is a size-up necessary for a better, comfier fit or do I stick with my real foot size? Either way, I'll be wearing 3mm neoprene socks with it.

Oh wow! I didn't know the mahina was supposed to be that flexible. I picked one up second-hand, and it's much stiffer than that. Maybe it's just old 😕 I definitely prefer my mertailor ff2, (or ff1 if I'm not up for the heavy lifting 😅) I've had the mahina for over a year and only used it 2x.

So, I got a black mahina and for me its really comfortable. I have the feeling the material around the footpockets is softer than the rest and its really smooth. I never got blisters or pain from it (and I really am sensitive, that to be said). I really wonder if its just because the different rubbers just happen to be al little different or if it is on purpose, because i touched the mahina from a fellow girl in my mermaid class and it felt soo much harder and not soft at all. So thats maybe something you might wanna try out.

Would you ever add the linden to the options for your tails? ❤

The Linden is an option for custom tails and for my monofin skins, but for now I don't have plans to added it to the pre-designed tails.

The foot pockets are like cheese graters and the weight of that wide heavy fin on your ankles it’s bad but the shape is beautiful and the fact that it fold in half is awesome! I have mixed feelings. the Lucia fin is much better

Just an update, My fin came today and i'm so happy yo take ir for a try

I always have issues with monofins that have straps. They do not hold tight due to my stange foot shape. They are narrow at the back and wide at the front. For this reason I mostly use Mahina and in my finfolks I prefer the shooter. My mythic has it inside, anyway.

The Luna will always have a very special place in my heart, but the Fish Fin is the most perfect size and I love it's neutral shape for designing mermaid tails. 💖
