Mahidevran Argues With Hurrem "KNOW YOUR PLACE MAHIDEVRAN"
Magnificent Century Watch Full Episode 👉 kzread.info/head/PLChGk5zHrF-L-e7BLKaQETnpFcc4rFP5M
At the age of 26, when he ascended to the throne, Sultan Suleiman aimed to build an empire more powerful than Alexander the Great and to render the Ottomans invincible. Throughout his 46-year reign, he became the greatest warrior and ruler of both East and West.
The young Suleiman received news of his succession to the throne during a hunting party in 1520. Unaware that he would be ruling a reign beyond his dreams, he left behind his wife son and took to the road with his close friend and companion Pargali Ibrahim to reach the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. As they started their journey overland, an Ottoman ship set sail from Crimea in the Black Sea, bringing female slaves as gifts for the Ottoman palace… On this ship was Alexandra La Rossa, the daughter of a Ukrainian Orthodox minister, taken away from her family and sold to the Crimean palace. She had no idea that she would become Hurrem, wife of Sultan Suleiman and mother of princes, ruling the empire with him through bloodshed and intrigue.
As Sultan Suleiman conquered the world, his great passion for Hurrem would clash with his love for and trust in his closest friend and advisor, Grand Vizier Pargali Ibrahim, all set against the backdrop of the tension between Christian Europe and the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.

    I don’t think Mahi realized any chance of getting back in SS good graces was gone when she tried to poison Hurrem while she was pregnant. She had no leverage after that aside from being the mother of Mustafa. After it became clear that Hurrem was the one SS loved, she should’ve just focus on getting her son in power…training him, advising him and gaining support for him wherever she could.

    For me he never like her he wait a pretext to throw her out of his favor and she give him the pretext he need ( even if it was horrible to poison food to a Hurrem pregnant) as he know that if she had doubt that one day he will kill Mustafa she will try to kill him, but Hurrem who know that he can strangled her sons didn't give up loyalty to him because of her stockolm Syndrom. The rest of you comment agreed even if when she leave with Mustafa she became more like this but it was more slowly ( like first give up her love to Suleiman who was the right decision). Just like Hurrem she became more lucide ( even if Hurrem was fare more smart in intrigue of Court) and wise in season 4.

    Suleiman himself points this out to her in the first season, calling out that, regardless of her desires, she sent poison to his table-an act that could've resulted in damage to his own person and certainly almost killed one of his children before he had the chance to meet them. It's really not possible for him to look at her the same way after that (understandably!).

    I agree 100% once she sent poison to his table he lost all interest in her. Not to mention she didn't know if he would eat the dessert too, which would've poisoned him as well. Mahidevran didn't think she let her emotions get the best of her.

    The biggest mistake the producers and director of this show made was undervaluing and misinterpreting the status of Hurrem after she gets married to Suleiman! She's a queen ya'll know and they have the audacity to show Mahi - a mere concubine - challenge the queen like a mad bull. Before Sul took Hurrem as his legal wife, it was acceptable to show Mahi humiliating the other but not after the marriage! She'd be chopped off, for sure.

    Still, Mahidevran is the mother of the firstborn. Basically, she doesn't outrank Hürrem, but she can't be punished too harshly because she isn't a nobody. A real life relatively comparable example of this was Kösem & Mahfiruz's fight which resumed in the latter being banished to the old palace (she was the mother of Osman). Execution is a big no no, unless she did something truly unforgivable like betraying the sultan himself. Basically, she is abusing the leniency that she is given with her status -though Hürrem outranks her both by rank and because she has more sons-.

  • @lysie9524

    @lysie9524

    @@imane5819Technically Hurrem does outrank Mahidevran. Hurrem is the legal wife of a sultan. She’s a literal queen of an empire. Mahidevran is a slave. Being the mother of the first born prince doesn’t make her outrank Hurrem in the Ottoman Empire because all sons have an equal right to inherit the throne, regardless of whether or not they were the first born.

    @imane5819 She is important until she insults or betrays her ruler. Look at their history. Only the Sultan has any right to have unchallenged power. It is an insult for any concubine to treat his wife in such a manner. ESPECIALLY since until then, there was no Haseki Sultan, and certainly no slaves freed and married, then called a sultan. In history, Valide Hafsa Sultan was the first to be allowed the use of Sultan by her son. Sharing power wasn't allowed. IF Mahidevran had, in real life, done that, she would have been executed. Her son would have been advised by his Lala and others appointed to him. Especially if he was already sent to his province. Everyone, friends and enemies, knew of the changes in the kingdom. Any insult or offences overlooked would be a show of weakness. Heads would have rolled. The show really downplayed the power Haseki Hurrem Sultan held. Even in the show, he said to his mother and others that an insult to his legally wedded wife was an insult to himself. So in the end, Mahidevran is important as a mother to her son who is now a contender for the throne. If she is like that, what has she taught her son? She is not truly necessary for the survival of the Dynasty. Her grown son can receive guidance from others.

    Mahidveran hatun can speak, raise her voice and take all her of anger out on Hurrem and nobody can tell her anything, she even gave a glare to Valide that she turned her head away unwilling to make eye contact with Mahidveran . In this season, she was very powerful that even Suleyman couldnt punish her but wasn't intelligent enough to use that power. She lost her power and was expelled next to Mustafa though. Mahidveran would have been a very great rival to Hurrem in the 4th season had they used her as an "antagonist" , yet they somehow preferred to bring a 4th sister of Suleyman to take that role which in my opinion was a failed attempt at repeating Meryem/Deniz rivalry.

    I will never understand why Valide liked Mahidevran so much and always stood by her over Hurrem even when she was wrong. So what if she gave birth to a future Sultan? If history is anything to go by, the first born doesn't always sit on the throne. Something terrible could happen, which is why more sons were needed...even if was tradition to kill them (smh I dont get that either). Valide accused Hurrem of being arrogant, manipulative, and power hungry, but she mostly did it out of survival and vengeance against those who had wronged her first. Mahidevran tops Hurrem in every one of those ways, but she has no reason whatsoever. Her position was solid. If she had ignored Hurrem or even been kind to her, Suleyman would still pay attention to her. But no. She's petty, jealous, arrogant, dishonest, violent, and unpredictable...yet somehow, Valide always thought protecting her was the safer choice.

    Hafsa why are you looking so surprise? Your son was clearly a man who mistreat all his concubines ( Hurrem, Mahidevran,etc...). In fact it was very kind of Mahidevran to wait all this years that one day he will love her ( or at least repect her) in return ( as he never respect her, just see the way he "console" her when she make a falsebirth). She did the right reaction to rejoice that he might be leaving this world (yes I know I'm mean, but instead of Mahidevran from episode 4 I would have already planned the fall of this guy and if he's down I'll would have kicked him in stride), I wish that Hurrem would do that too ( she is clearly in Stockolm Syndrom and need help to that, I am not joking). Hafsa want Mahidevran to be a pupet that why she favorised her instead of Hurrem but the moment she became lucid and began to mentally emancipate herself she rejected her (she no longer became a puppet) and began to favor Hurrem who suffered from a serious addiction to Suleiman. my problem with Mahidevran isn't her hatred for hurrem and suleyman is very justified she's dumb and petty causing trouble for her self solved by Ibrahim or valida or Mustafa In here when suleyman was in coma she literally made everyone her enemy I mean if it wasn't for valida she would have left the palace long time ago even Ibrahim and Mustafa told her not to take far since the sultan hasn't died yet even if he died Mustafa and Ibrahim would have trust issues with her the most important women in the empire are her enemy 🤷‍♀️ She abused any kind of power she just had then lose it like a mother in law of aybice or her being in charge of the palace which Ibrahim helped her in keeping it twice but still messed up She's lucky that Khadija was obsessed with Ibrahim and ready to blame anyone for the affair
