Actually shishupal was the gatekeeper of Krishna (Vishnu) 's abode Vaikunth. For some reason he, along with the other gatekeeper were cursed to take birth as a human on earth. Both the gatekeepers approached Vishnu for a solution. Vishnu said that they'd be born 3 times on earth as His enemies, and He would kill them only to end the curse and take them back to Vaikunth. Isiliye ye hona hi tha, shishupal apne peechle janm mein Ravan tha, aur usse pehle wale janm mein aur ek rakshas/asur tha. Shishupal's death resulted in the 3rd and final death of one of those gatekeepers. So basically ye hona hi tha, and Krishna ki ichha se hi hua🙏
