Fortunately, most of them don't want to. It's worth remembering that men can be VERY competitive, to the point of self-destruction. For more on that, study professional cycling.

MC's comments are very equilibrate, this time. He is not accusing his opponent, he just tells a plain truth: he was disturbed because of the watch and the behaviour of Suleymenov, who repeatedly touches and adjusts it. This behaviour looks like a simple tic, non a trick; indeed Suleymenov has a real collection of tics, little gestures etc. Carlsen blames himself for not being able to "deal with those thoughts properly" and praises his opponent's play, while observing that his watch is allowed but not coherent with the recent battle FIDE has launched against cheating. I can't see anything offensive or unfair in his words.

Isn't wearing a (permitted) analog watch an appropriate reply to Magnus' usual tactic of intimidation: arriving late, taking his time to sort the pieces, and generelly demonstrating a very high level of confidence, in addition to his reputation as "goat". So if other players cannot concentrate because of all this, it gives Magnus usually an advantage which was simply missing in this game here. The title of the video unfairly diminishes Alisher Suleymenov's performance in the game.

Unfortunately, Suleymenov's non-verbal behaviour is unnatural. It doesn't mean he was cheating but it's unnatural. He touches and fiddles with his watch repeatedly. By odd coincidence, his watch is often angled to point at the board. It is also a large watch, with a thick base. He's also places it as far forward on his arm as possible, to the point where it would be uncomfortable to wear, but this keeps its face visible. At 3:38, before he makes a critical move, he touches and fiddles with his watch excessively. At 4:02, after he's made the crucial move, he relaxes and no longer places his watch, facing the table. Perhaps it's all nervous tics, but if I was playing him, it would certainly concern me.

Magnus is beating GMs left and right and suddenly he loses. It can't be. We don't know, but maybe there was foul play. I was even suspicious in MVL match in the AI masters. Magnus beat hikari, wesley, nepo like cake and then suddenly loses to MVL ? That too two times. The thing is, GMs don't need to be told the exact moves for cheating. They just need to know whether their current move is good according to the engine or not. Which means this message can be conveyed using a blink of eye or bead or even analog watches. It's a possibility.

When move is made, it is useless to know whether it was good , suboptimal or blunder. You cant take it back. Cheating means if player knows beforehand whether his planned move is good or bad. To know that, he has to communicate with engine :" I intend to play 19. e5." And engine gives green light in code : it is the best move in this position . BTW, Suleimanov played 19.e5 in real game and after that black position became critical. Carlsen replied with another suboptimal 19...d5 and it became hopeless. I am 99.99 % sure Suleimanov was not cheating though.
