At 21:54, Bxa6 does not work because of ...R-c8 threatening ...R-c1. Ding's ... d4 prevented B-c3. R-c2 prevents mate but after exchanges the B at a6 will be lost.

If he had taken with the bishop, he'd have had it pinned against his rook and attached with Magnus's other rook...lost. If instead he had taken with the rook, after the exchange of rooks, his bishop risked getting trapped on h2 but if not trapped then Magnus at least gets some queenside initiative.

@@jmflores9643 That's not true. At least 2 of the last world champs he played he blundered massively to the point that if the opponent had have capitalised Carlsen would have lost. He's a young man. It's ridiculous he's quit world champ chess.

Well, even the board is closer to Ding if you look at the position of the table. It seems pretty clear that it is closer to Ding. But maybe they both like it that way. Magnus has more elbow room. Maybe he has a longer reach.@@levhart32

@@krioni86sa How could you tell from the video? You would have to be standing right near the table in order to a to make such an evaluation! It's impossible from that angle in the video to make such a determination.It looks quite centered to me!

@@MrMeezerMox Yes, you are correct regarding the table (you have a very keen eye, I wasn't even paying attention to that) but I wasn't talking about the center of the table.I meant the center of the board. So technically you are correct but from Dings perspective he was just centering it mid board! So you are a probably correct that Carlson likes it a little bit more further from him for more elbow space.
