Magnum Puts The Pieces Together | Magnum P.I.
Ойын-сауық
Tom Selleck won an Emmy for his portrayal of Thomas Magnum, a charming private detective who lives in Hawaii on the estate of an absentee millionaire. Though a bit of a rascal, Magnum investigates his cases with skill, deftly moving about an island that is luxurious, exotic, and sometimes dangerous. Successfully blending doses of action, mystery, irreverent comedy, and poignant drama, this series became one of the biggest hits in television history and afforded Selleck and his characterization iconic status.

Funny how CBS picked the bones of two classic franchises Hawaii Five-O and Magnum. Neither can hold a candle to the original. That abomination they call Magnum that’s on now, is a disgrace.

Abomination is what it is indeed!
There are actors that play a role and there are actors that ARE a role and Tom Selleck was and always will be Thomas Magnum. Just the perfect guy to embody that role. You also can't top Roger Moseley, John Hillerman and Larry Manetti either.

I started seeing the original Magnum PI on reruns bunch of times back in maybe 2014/2015 and I greatly enjoyed it...and then I stopped watching it up until yesterday when I decided to rewatch it again on Freevee. Still enjoyable and really holds up good. And yes, I wasn't even born yet until long after the OG Magnum went off the air and I'm 19 now haha. Guess I still definitely have a soft spot for old shows after all these years.

I lived in Waikiki in 1987.....I was at a stop light at around 7PM at night in Waikiki and noticed that a white Porsche had pulled up net to me.....I looked to my left and noticed Tom looking right at me....Tom then pulled into the parking lot of Nicks Fish Market that was a joint he was known to eat at....one of my few contacts so to speak with a famous person....
Magnum PI, Simon & Simon, and Hill Street Blues. Man, I loved Thursday nights.

I used to like Magnum having a touch of premonitions about things. It made him even the more interesting.
First season of Magnum Pi was a great intro to knowing the cast, as well the main protagonist, Thomas Sullivan Magnum. The plot and writing was engaging, as well the drama and the quirkinesses, making it a great detective-action-drama show of the 80’s. This is the REAL MAGNUM Pi! 😎

Still love me some Magnum! Awesome cast, great stories, and fun in Hawaii!
There are people that get matched with a role and it was just PERFECT -- Selleck w/ Magnum, Don Johnson as Sonny Crocket, and Ted Danson as Mayday Malone -- No one else could have been those characters. ... BTW I owned that exact yellow MGB in this scene... That might have been CGI / special effects... Because I don't think an MGB has ever driven that far without breaking down. MG's are neat cars and they sure do look good behind the tow truck. BTW Larry Manetti's book was pretty cool Aloha Magnum.

And how many important parts are the shoulder? Bones, veins, arteries to the arm. It's almost the same as the pelvic girdle. You are dead.
Magnum: "DAMMITT!! THE SAME FRICKEN SHOULDER AGAIN."
Such a great pilot episode. It sets the tone for the whole series. It has the right balance of funny moments but a heaviness to the mystery Magnum is solving. I loved the serious episodes vs the ones played mostly for comedy. Such a twist that the man he's hunting, who killed Dan Cook, was a member of the team. To me the only thing out of step is that Rick and TC are not also more upset about Dan being killed and his sister is not also comforted by them. In one scene she finds a photo of the team and comments that they are all so young but of course she knew Thomas longest since she was a girl in school.
Magnum, PI & Hawaii Five-O are great classics. I could not sit through one episode of either reboots. I am surprised both lasted.
Back when Magnum was great!
Grest series! Saw them all in the original run in the 80s. A great time to be a youngster in my 20s!

The image quality in these is great.
The studios still have no idea that these shows were successful because of the writing, subject, and location but more importantly, the specific actors and you’ll never recreate that.

Magnum’s narrative voice sounds like Norm MacDonald! 😂
There is something to think about. If Higgins is Robin Masters, and i believe he is...then he gave Magnum a job working security for the estate. Magnum was a mess after the War, working as a PI on the estate gave him time to heal from his trauma.
Damn, Magnum PI was a great show. So let me get this straight, you look like Tom Selleck, you get to work in Hawaii for 8 years and oh by the way, we’ll pay you big bucks for your “trouble”. It was good to be Tom.

This teleplay should have been a motion picture. We could have seen a more thought-provoking drama with what 'we' now know of the CIA's and Corsican mafia's activities before and after the USA's 'official' involvement in Southeast Asia [Laos, Cambodia, Bangkok, and 'Nam]. Still, it's one of my favorite episodes of the original series.

Rick would have been arrested and jailed for illegal gun charges, possible murder, firing a gun in public and probably a half dozen other charges.
What episode Is this
I loved this show, it was really excellent.just sayin ;)
Downtown Honolulu looks pretty rough.
It’s possible to like the original show and like the reboot one. I had to let the reboot grow on me but it’s fun in its own way. I’m not particularly keen on Jay Hernandez but I don’t hate him. Love the new TC and Rick. Often watch the show just for them. We all need buddies like them. Making Higgins a woman was cheeky. She’s great. I would love them to say that Juliet was the favorite niece of her uncle Jonathan Quayle. Hearing his exploits inspired her to the path of adventure and service to the Crown. She then took over his role as major domo when Robin asked JQ who he recommended to replace him. Which leads me to Robin Masters in the reboot. It would break the internet if they could get Tom Selleck to play Robin Masters in the reboot. He’s a rugged adventurer who could write adventure novels. Please world, make this happen.
