    Amazing! Thanks for sharing! Once I've forgot an almost gone onion in a ziplock bag in the fridge and when I was cleaning all, I found her with a bunch of roots! Of course I planted and worked for a little bit and fast! Now I got this "pine cone" from the floor of my condominium and there is a bunch of seeds! Will do the zip lock like you show and hope will be the same!!

    Thank you for this amazing informative video! I have different specifies and have been wondering about seed propagation. Can you skip the refrigerator if you live in a cold zone? I am zone 6b. Or do you start them in seed trays and transplant in the spring after danger for frost is gone? Thank you so much!

    Thanks for this well done video! So I tried with 7 seeds and have one that actually grew. I’m stoked about that, but what I need to know is when do I transplant it and to what or where? Isn’t there a certain age of the seedling that’s best to put it in the ground? I know it should be after the freeze, but should it just go into a bigger pot outside first for a year or so before putting it in the ground? Do I wait for four leaves before replanting? Help!

    Refrigerator or freezer? I've seen both on various sites. We have a very large magnolia producing seeds currently. I found at least two pods putting out red seeds with more on the way. As a side note my mother used to freeze tulip bulbs and grow them in pots inside in the dead of summer and winter as well . Blooming tulips in August and January at times.. Always kind of cool..

    MyKZread Hello from Arkansas! My magnolias are still in pots with about 10 leaves each. I only started with 3 seeds and 2 are going strong. They survived an infestation of hungry baby rabbits this past spring and are growing nice and straight. We are at the end of summer and I still don’t have an answer about what to do with them during winter. I’m thinking I’ll put them in the only south facing window we have which is in the garage. Keep me updated on what you decide to do! 😀

    +Angie Vaughn thanks for watching! It is possible the seed has been damaged by the freezing temperature. It may depend on how long they have been in the freezer. If they have been in the freezer for several months then the only way to really know is to plant them and see if they will germinate. Here is a great reference on how to propagate magnolia from seed - www.dendrology.org/site/images/web4events/pdf/Tree%20info%20IDS_08_GrowingMagnolias.pdf.

We are in Louisiana where it will still be cold..so do I keep them inside until spring time? I am a lil confused but I am trying to learn this..please answer thank you.

    Steve, I have a Elizabeth Magnolia Tree that is about 8 years old and about 8 feet tall but the cones that fall off of my tree are small, more like the size of your finger but I have never seen any seeds bulges from them. I have broken one in half to see what it was when I first noticed them a couple years ago and I do see tiny black seeds in them like a kiwi. Do I have to dry them first so they pop open by themselves or is my tree just to young to produce really good seeds?

  • @OKGardeningClassics

    @OKGardeningClassics

    10 жыл бұрын

    Sharon, I would take a fresh cone and set it aside for a few days so it can dry. After it dries it should open and can have shake the seeds out. Also the colors of the seeds when you first see them should be red so they may not be ready quite yet. They can take up to ten years to bloom.

    Al principio habla de los tipos de magnolias que existen y sus semillas. Todas tienen esa capa roja que -de forma natural- un pájaro la come y defeca la pura semilla. Hay que recolectar esas semillas rojas al final del verano y principio de otoño y hay que quitarles esa capa roja manualmente. Después se pone en una bolsa ziploc con tierra para macetas y se deja por tres meses en el refri. Después de eso hay que sacar las semillas y ponerlas en contenedores individuales -una semilla por contenedor- y hay que dejarlas en algún lugar que les llegue el sol y en unas semanas crece :D no es literal pero es lo que entendí :D suerte!
