Magnitude 5.9 Earthquake Hits Australia (Victoria) Compilation Sep 22, 2021

On Wednesday at 09:16 (Local time) a magnitude 5.9 earthquake hits Victoria, Australia with a depth 10.0 km maximum intensity VII (Very strong).
Many residential buildings in Melbourne were evacuated due to the damage inflicted by the quake. Some damage was reported in many parts of Victoria. At Chapel Street, Melbourne, the earthquake collapsed the top facade of a brick building and left debris across the road. Tall residential apartments of up to 50 stories in the city swayed for as much as 20 seconds, triggering panic among residents. In Mansfield near the epicentre, there was minor damage to some buildings including a local ambulance centre. Power outages were reported across parts of metropolitan Melbourne.
Geoscience Australia said the earthquake is the strongest to hit Australia on land since 1997, and the strongest in Victoria in 50 years

For all you no aussies out there, the ‘calm’ reactions were actually mainly shock as we never really get earthquakes and our buildings aren’t really built to be ready against them. They probably thought there was a big truck going by, the washing machine, or someone playing loud music. When the earthquake hit my area (rural vic) I was in bed and personally believed it was my sister moving around on the bottom bunk but realised she was in the hallway.

@King Ummm..... But i have seen seismical zone marked on the geographocal atlas book located in Australia. Maybe there's just a small earthquake-prone area in Australia, idk.

I remember I was doing drawing and I was on my headphones, I was like “ the hell?” And my brother came out to investigate and so did my mum and we all went to his room because it had the least windows, don’t worry my dog just ran with us. My heart was beating really fast because of the shock so… I started crying. I know I’m a wimp. Anyway something else interesting is that my grandparents who lived four hours away felt it a bit, they were doing construction on their house and they could still feel it! Even the people on the radio could. Also our carers who do shopping and take care of the house because my mum can’t this happened when she was at the store, she said “ Over the intercom the people said stay away from the shelves, everything is falling off of it. They were.” So that was a ‘fun’ experience.

Maybe not for you but for people in Australia it's another story because we don't usually get earthquakes just a earth tremor and even those aren't usually an everyday occurrence. So I do apologise if you find our surprised pikachu faces annoying but it's not everyday Australia witnesses an 5.9 or 6.0 magnitude earthquake.

@@HeyItzLory Hi Lauren, I do apologize I realized now that I was being little too insensitive. I actually live in a country without earthquakes myself, but having lived in and visited Japan, made me insensitive, seeing earthquakes there are a monthly thing… I hope everyone are okay and that no one got injured🙏🏻
