A cheap 3D printed magnetic brake add-on for VKB's T-Rudder pedals. Intention was to enable the T-Rudder pedals to stay in place for helicopter use, but also be quick and easy to revert back to plane mode, and most of all, VERY CHEAP.
The plate is a generic nailing plate, 40x120x2.3mm sized, costs about 1-2€. The magnet is neodymium, 32mm diameter, with a ~5mm hole, and 6mm thick (all measurements include outer steel cover), cost ~15€. The felt pad is a generic furniture slider pad, 3mm thick, costs some cents.
One of the great things about this system is that it allows for almost infinite tweaking possibilities. You can use magnets of nearly any thickness, and the holder is easy to adjust in size for smaller magnets before printing (or you could make an adapter). You can use different thicknesses and materials on the magnet for different friction properties and magnetic pull (thicker = less pull on magnet), and you can also cover the plate with different kinds of tape etc. to tweak things further.
This current setup seen in the video results in quite a strong feel, and a little bit of initial stiction, but does still easily allow for adjustments small enough to keep a helicopter steady without wandering. In our opinion it's a great starting point for both usage and further tweaks.
Massive thanks to Varsi for his work on modeling and printing the parts!

Maybe I'm missing something, but how does a game like IL-2 know that you're pressing the brakes by the simple addition of a magnet?

Ah, not THAT kind of brake. The "magnetic brake" refers to the magnet holding the pedals in position, so that they don't re-center on their own. This isn't useful for planes generally, but with helicopters where you have to generally have constant anti-torque input on the pedals it can be immensely helpful.

@@jubuttib ah, thanks. Debating getting these or MFG pedals.

@@Brew-doo Both are great pedals, doubt you'll dislike either. I went with these because I wanted the small footprint and more vertical pedal motion.

@@jubuttib I already have all VKB gear and the pedals are the cheapest good kind. Just not sure if I'd regret not having toe brakes since I do fly warbirds.

@@Brew-doo Aye, warbirds probably benefit the most from toebrakes. Well, except the Spittie, which has the brake on the flight stick, but the rest of them.
