Hi Eugene the street lamp will be great when it’s restored we are trying to source an original lamp for it but haven’t found one yet. I think we should go back to where we found it the lamp part might be in the river still. it was a nice historical city 👍

I live in Lincolnshire, i've just started magnet fishing my first find was a rusty nail, i sometimes go magnet fishing at Tattershall lake in Lincolnshire.

George doesn’t always have the perfect cast, I’ve lost count of the times he’s got stuck to a metal bridge or hit a brick one. That doesn’t sound good what happened to you, hope you were okay. Thanks for watching 👍

I’d refurbish some of those road signs. In the US they sell very well, in addition to advertising signs. Even if in slightly crappy condition.

@@Magneticg My great great grandfather used to light street lamps in London when they were gas. If I remember rightly my grandfather said that he was told about it when asking about family stuff as a kid. He was paid something like a penny for every ten lights. Or something like that.

Molasses cleans rust off metal. Mix it 50-50 with water and leave it a week or two. Feed barn will have some.

Hiya kumpels nice video as usual. Im pretty sure the item that looks like a sword hilt is from a narrow boat. They have one on the prow for mooring and towing. Some also have them on the stern. Got a similar one out in birminham city centre. Cant wait to see the restored lamp.

Just an FYI, most US coins are not magnetic. There are a few exceptions, but not many.

@@Magneticg have a look at channel EXPLORING ALABAMA he found a carbine about 6 months ago in the river with a wooden stock He did a lot of research ( shown ) about taking the rust off and then a solution bath then preservative .You need to keep it in water while you decide what to do

We would make a small fortune out of the scrap if we scrapped it ourselves. Unfortunately we don’t have the time to do it so we arrange for the scrap metal to be collected by a scrap metal merchant who takes it away for us. They get paid for it when they weigh it in. Did you find out anything about the gun? It looks like a derenger type pocket pistol, it had that much corrosion though it could just as easily be cigarette lighter.

Good to hear from you, sadly we’ve not been able to find anything out about the gun due to it being severely corroded. Feelings are it could be an early percussion pistol. A similar one to ours was found on the same day plus two other guns. One being a Walther P38 and the other gun a Walther PPK. Thanks for watching 👍

@@Magneticg did they turn out to be genuine?, the grips looked all wrong for a ppk but a previous owner could also have been sacrilegious.

I enjoy watching what is found. Do wonder why it says surprise find. I would think any item is a surprise, since you have no idea what you find on the end of the magnet. Just a thought.

Thank you for your comment, yes every find is a surprise it’s like lucky dip when we magnet fish! The title was referring to the beautiful old gas lamp and the unusual tiny gun we found. Whilst all finds are a surprise, those two finds were more of a surprise to us as they were not run of the mill magnet fishing finds ie shopping trolleys and rusty old bike frames.
