That is hilariously bright! Reminds me of my dad's old light that had an external battery shaped like a bottle to fit in a bottle cage.

Those were the Gen 1 Niterider. Not bright at all by today’s standards and only ran on high for 15 min or so. In its day it was the pinnacle.

"I'm going to do this review with the light on the bike since that's probably how you'll use a bike light" - LOL. You had me laughing several times in this one.

I went for a long ride with mine last night, in temperatures below 0°C (32°F). I had several issues with it. Firstly, the light kept switching off by itself when riding in pitch blackness, and also when I came back on to a main road with traffic. That is highly dangerous! Secondly, even with temperatures below freezing, the 12,000lm mode stepped down by around 60% after 6 or 7 seconds. There's no way thermal throttling occurred, as the light was cold to the touch. I even opened the app up while the light was on about 4000lm, and it said the light was 5°C. Magicshine claiming a runtime of 2hrs 30mins on 12,000lm is more than misleading, it's an outright lie that could get them in trouble with trading standards.

Just ordered the light. Currently on Christmas sale $110 off, then common coupons you can find online take $66 more off, total came to $373.99. Good deal. Still feel silly for spending that much on a light, but Al the cheap >$100 ones I keep buying start failing within a couple months. Also I ride my e-bike on the pitch black country roads in the middle of the night and already has several accidents with wild life. Excited.

@@e.l.9589 yup loving it. no issue or regrets so far. Was a bit wonky at first with the app, didn't sync or work properly, but eventually it'll update the firmware on the light and everything will work after that. I used the app to set a couple of modes, and now only have to use the remote or button on the light itself. Everything is great. Battery placement is the only issue, its not small, and You gotta find some where to hide/place it on the bike, i attached mine under the rear rack, which is nice, but now i have a external cable running long the frame of my bike. I tried to run it though the bike frame internally but for some reason the light cables have super fat end connectors that wont fit inside the frame. but loving it.

Thanks for supplying a round about answer to a question that I asked Magicshine about this light and all I got was "Crickets". I asked if this light had a thermal protection switch just like all the other high end lights did such a Lupines. With lupines you cant run their light on max brightness in on hot days for too long before the thermal protection limits the brightness in order to protect the lamp. What they are calling a flood beam (the center lamp) is actually a cut off beam lamp. The way you have it mounted casts the beam way too tall. That center beam is meant to limit light dazzle for road type riding or areas where you have oncoming traffic..pedestrians, cars or other bikes. Angel it down more and you will see what I mean. When angled properly the center then does become a flood with i nice cutoff beam pattern. Personally I believe this light is a decent product but it was meant to compete with Lupines and they just missed the mark and overdid all of it. I dont think it has near the quality of the beams for all the various uses. But, they put a lot of cash into it and needed to get a return on that so here it is as a MTB light and not so much as a road use light also as they had first marketed it to be.

I have the Monteer 8000s v2 and use a lightweight Fenix 3000lm battery integrated torch on the helmet to see everywhere i look. I think it´s a better and cheaper solution than the Monteer 12000

Most people underestimate the speed of my e bike. They pull out in front of me. With the Monteer it gets their attention every time

Could always put your garmin on the top of the stem as a spacer. I have the MJ900/906 combo and they rock for night riding on the trails.. I have been looking at this but want something like the exposure without a pack.

Hi there. Fanstastic review. Could you please tell me how long the cable is that goes from the headlight to the battery? I have a large e bike Toni don’t know if it’ll be long enough. Also what does the connection to the light look it. Thanks a million. Steve

Actually gave this light to someone so I don’t have it with me anymore, but I recall correctly the cord was plenty along. So long that I had to wrap it around the top tube to take up the extra slack. As far as the connection, it’s a Three prong triangle shaped connector that’s very secure

Can you flip the light mount so the light is below the bar and run the Garmin mount above it?

  • @ClintGibbs

No. The bracket gets in the way of the actual mount where it clamps onto the handlebars.

Thanks for review. You have battery strapped wrong and why they are too long. You need to run the straps around the battery and frame. You will little excess. I have a monteer 3500 that i live but a short circuit in head unit caused battery to short and cut off light until its reset with another baytery pack. There is a design flaw in motherboard and i cant trust magicshine. Does anyone know if v2 monteer address the issue?

Can it be mounted upside-down? So the garmin mount can be positioned above it.

Trail Evo Was awesome,.never seen the point of a narrow helmet light like the hangover... swapped it for a cheap wide beam Infun GT200 light. Their upcomming Portal light looks like a worthy helmet light. With that said I know rock automotive light pods... Baja S1 WA ambers on helmet,. morimoto 2 banger wide fogs for bars

Do not buy this light. I have the 8000 and it can't be trusted and has failed me continuously. Cheap cables will not hold up to any outdoor pursuit. Avoid and save yourself the headache, missed rides and getting stranded in the dark.
