Thanks to all!! I had the same feeling, why nobody has upload this video before. So I buy an older deck with the VHS on eBay, send it to a specialized store to convert it into a file, and here is the final product. I hope that you, as me enjoy this piece of Magic History.

These guys playing w/o sleeves is like those old hockey players who played with no helmet. They were just a tougher breed.

Actually you can see people having sleeved cards earlier on in the video during the convention hall pans. However when you got to the higher end of the tournament where they were going to record their matches they had to de-sleeve because the shitty cameras at the time couldn't handle the glare.
I still have the VHS of this, God I miss old school Magic. 😢
For years I have been waiting for someone to post this online. Thank you so much. So many memories watching this on VHS while playing with friends.

Dude...I had this video on VHS, and used to watch it all the time. It got lost somewhere, and I never got to watch this again...finally SOMEONE uploaded it..thank you lol
"Newcomer, Randy Buehler" Is a hilarious phrase to hear in regard to magic the gathering.
A Pretty Deece video on TCGPlayer's channel sent me this way. This would be a few months before I actually got into Magic the Gathering. I love looking into those days and seeing what was happening. Man, the cringe watching unsleeved cards on pavement during the interviews... then again, many of my early games were played unsleeved on an old wood picnic table on my mom's porch. Learned from playing in the sun that I dislike foils lol.

Hahahaha weve all been there in the 90s
The difference in the match came down to who did and did not have giant pants.
The most 90's opening ever
US Nationals used to be my favorite event every year. 4 days of nothing-but-Magic at a vacation spot. If you weren't qualified for Nats, you could play meatgrinders the day before in the hopes of winning a last-chance entry into the main event. If you didn't do that, there were limited and constructed flights of every variety firing off every 15 minutes. Some with super cool prizes. There were GPT's and PTQ's throughout the weekend. An enormous array of vendors, drafts back at the hotel ballrooms, and so much more. It was such a spectacle, but WotC did away with it (along with many other cool events).
My teenage years. God I miss 90's MTG.

I started in Revised, right after Dark got sold out. It was pretty cool, but damn you had to have a good memory. No google, no internet, no black/silver/gold for rarity, so REMEMBER ALL CARDS by heart from lists that were printed from hand-crafted lists till Dualist started being available to buy. I had issues 3 & 4 :) Still remember $12 duallands, $50 lotuses (didnt buy was too expensive for a 13 yr old), and later in 96, $100 HP beta lotuses etc.

Listen as the screams of millions cry out in horror from the unsleeved decks when sleeves were not required and most people probably did not care about the value. Its pretty entertaining to watch the cringe. Also the guy narrating the deck list sounds like the Digimon Emperor from Gen 2
@Thebrianweissman
3 жыл бұрын
Haha, “the guy narrating” is actually me, reading off a quick script I wrote in a studio in New York 23 years ago! The cringe is real, but man, I remember being pretty proud of this 😜 The reason the players aren’t using sleeves is because you were literally forbidden to use them in the top 8, due to concerns about glare and the cameras. Contrary to what others are saying, many older cards were already quite valuable by 1998, though standard-legal cards less so.

@@DrewskiTheLegend To be specific, the exact location of the Bloom varies from recounting to recounting. This particular one always kind of irked me, as Long was famous for perching on his chair, a position that doesn't really provide him a lap. Others comedically said that the Bloom was physically taped to the bottom of his chair. The most likely one, however, is the obvious location of on top of the chair seat near his feet.
