The way I learned this as a kid was to actually start will one length of rope that you fold up and cut to 3 'equal' length ropes in front of the spectators, which then become uneven and then back to even again. Obviously this removes the advantage of re-using the ropes but you can re-use the set you create if you dont want to do the full monte. Another great thing about this trick is that its full examinable.

I learned the cut and restored rope when I was about twelve. Learned professors nightmare probably thirty years later. Between the two I can easily burn through ten minutes give or take performing for friends, and once you have these “skills” down it’s easy to refresh every so often and these are always in your tool belt.

I hope people don't underestimate the outstanding possibilities this effect has to offer. I have been doing this effect in my shows for years and it never fails to entertain and amaze my spectators. It is all in the presentation, so it's not just for beginners. Thanks for a fair and clear explanation David, as always you are an excellent reviewer, and we appreciate your work.

Great review as always David. Tenyo had a great effect using this principle called Four Nightmares DX that has instructions for jthe original effect and another four routines on top. Admittedly the ropes were gimmicked but the whole routine is awesome.

Thank you David. Is this worth buying to catch any nuances from his particular version? Or is this pretty much the straightforward three different lengths, three of the same size count them, three different lengths?

Ok, I know professors nightmare and my learned method does not allow me to show the ropes individually once they are the same length. I have to hide the secret either in my fist of behind my hand. Is there some type of edit here or does his handling allow you to do that?

I wanna know where I can learn Mac Kings rope routine where a bunch cut ropes appear as knots a on a rope but then are revealed to not be tied on the rope. I know the price point on this download is great but Richard Sanders sets the bar and is Worth every penny.that being said I wish he addressed what gauge of rope to buy. I got udays and it feels a bit light for some of the moves. Smilesotheylikeyou

Pop Hayden has a fantastic and entertaining routine that combines the cut and restored rope, dissolving knot and professors nightmare. kzread.info/dash/bejne/gmahxdiHh8TPmaw.htmlsi=GVAZoR4p7fr3lsxM In my somewhat humble opinion, every magician should invest in the "Tarbell Course" before waisting money on magic tricks that are just lame attempts to cash in on standard magic principals. Its like trying to sell the sheet music of a jazz standard like "All of Me" in a different key and passing off as new and improved. Its the presentation that makes it great. Not the method.
