Magic winning Finals MVP as a 20 year old rookie who played all 5 positions will never happen again. It will never be repeated.

If you want to understand the history of basketball as it exists today, you need to watch the documentary “Magic and Byrd: A Courtship of Rivals.”

My top 3 all time are Larry, Magic, and Jordan. I was a Lakers fan growing up because of Magic and the Showtime Lakers, even though I didn't even live in California.

Magic went to 9 finals in 13 years and won 5 of them. Then he beat HIV and people realized it is no longer a death sentence. He's definitely GOAT status.

I first met Earvin in high school playing ball against his twin sisters and the McGee twins from Flint. His Spartans warred with my Michigan Wolverines and his subsequent career and business ventures since his retirement. We were cool outside of anyone coming against my Detroit Pistons. I'm proud of who he is and how he moves through his life.

I've enjoyed several of your reactions so I subbed. You do a really nice and NASTY job! I was born in L.A. back in '62 and have been a Lakers fan all my life. The first NBA game I ever went to as a young kid was the early 70s championship team with Wilt, Jerry West, Gail Goodrich, etc. Magic was drafted my senior year in high school. He is, and will always be, my favorite player of all time. His arrival changed everything -- not just for the team but the whole city. He lit that town up like nobody else and that's saying a lot given all the famous movie & music stars over the years. It's so hard to describe just how different he was to anything we had ever seen on a basketball court before. There had been many GREAT athletes and players before him, but nobody played the game quite like Magic... except for Larry Bird, who played almost EXACTLY like Magic. It was absolutely uncanny and something akin to divine intervention that those two appeared in the league at the same time. We had never seen a 6'9" point guard before but it was much more than that. His style of play was never seen before and it hasn't been seen since. He would relentlessly run that fast break by coming full speed right down the middle of the lane. It was like a freight train coming at the defenders and he was just way too big to stop. Magic was not an elegant ball handler. In fact, he dribbled so high that I always feared someone would steal the ball when he came into the lane... but they never could! He constantly forced defenders into an impossible choice that they were almost certain to lose. A few years ago, people used to praise Kyrie as the best penetrating and finishing guard. How quickly they forgot about Magic! If he decided to take it to the hoop, you could probably count on one hand the number of times he missed if he wasn't fouled. Anyone else is a distant second place in that conversation. The most impressive thing about Magic and Bird is that they had almost a supernatural sense of both the basket and all the other players on the court. To call either of them "unathletic" is absurd but neither were anywhere near the freaks of nature that so many associate with the "athletic" description. Extreme athleticism was not their gift. They were savants who possessed an innate understanding of the game like nobody I had ever seen, save possibly Pete Maravich. This allowed Magic and Larry to add a whole different level of improvisation to their games. They could go full speed without any conscious sense of how things would end up when they started running, but somehow pull off some insane pass or shot right at the moment that those of us watching thought for sure that all their options had run out. They would also routinely make shots or plays that you KNOW they never could have spent any significant time practicing. I'm trying desperately here to describe what made him so unique but probably failing miserably because there's just no way to quantify the "magic" he and Larry brought to the game. Ultimately, I just feel so blessed to have witnessed that era of the NBA first hand. There have been many great players since then and I have no desire to disparage the talent and hard work of subsequent and current players. For me personally, however, the NBA just hasn't had the same appeal since Magic and Larry left the game.

Nasty!!! All day long. This is only the tip of the iceberg of Magic’s highlights. Where do I even begin? Only rookie to win Finals MVP. Not only had 42pts 15reb’s but also had 7 assists, 3 steals, & 2blocks. Was in the Championship 9 yrs of his 11yr career (12 but was hurt for the season yr 2). Won 5 chips. Beat Bird 2 outta 3. One of the very few players to only beat Champions to become Champion. 6’ 9” PointGod! Had one additional lane to pass than all other PG’s. Over the smaller defenders heads. Could score at will if he wanted to but was a true PG that got the entire team involved. Had an insane mid range shot. More of a set shot than a jumper. High 80’s to low 90’s from the free throw line. Was a match up nightmare for opposing defenses. My favorite part was his flashy style either demoralized defenses and took crowds outta the game at away games but also turned both of them into fans mid game. Had opposing teams in awe on the court and opposing fans cheering for him. Nobody had ever done that at the time. 15-20 fast breaks a game with sort of passing. Everyone on the team was put in the stat book cuz Magic got everyone involved. More chips than Curry. More season MVP’s & more Finals MVP’s. Top 7 assist leader vs the other 6 who all played 5-8 more years than Magic. The inventor of the triple double on a daily basis. Beat Dr. J and the high powered 76’ers for a chip. Beat Isaiah Thomas and the Bad Boys for a Chip. Beat Larry Bird and the Green Team more than once for a Chip. Was one of the reasons and Bird that kept Jordan from winning a chip til year 6-7 when they were 10+ yrs in the league. I can do this all day! NASTY!!!

I'm from Southern Cali (Orange County) and Magic is the reason I fell in love with the sport in 1980. He was a 6'9 thoroughbred with the bionic vision of Lee Majors. He was the true American gangster. Droppin' dimes like Frank Lucas snitches. His passes were nasty as Shaq's feet. On the fast-break he brought havoc like Prodigy on a Mobb Deep beat. #Legend #HardwoodHeathen

Magic made the game so fun to watch you never knew to whom the pass would go. When most of the game was stagnant in the paint, Showtime got out on the fast break. Loved Magic’s absolute passion for the game. He was as obsessed with winning like MJ, Bird or Kobe.

Was watching the All Star Game with my Dad. I really like Dr J but was rooting for the West because Kareem, Magic, and Worthy were all on that team. When my Dad told me that all three played for the same team I decided that the Lakers were for me. Being a fan of that team with those players was such a treat.

80-90's basketball that is the best thing ever no offense to Kobe and Lebron but is not even close is not that both of them are not great is just the game was very physical and efficient you can be passive on both sides of the court and can shoot bricks all the time .The only players allow to have the ball when in matters on wanted was MJ,Bird,Magic and Kareem .
