This documentary always brings me to tears every time, & it doesn't matter how many times I watch this........I have so much respect for both Magic & Larry, and IMO, these 2 will always be the GOATS in my heart, & the two that saved the NBA💖💖💖Thank you for such a thoughtful reaction, & really enjoyed your commentary! Oh, and the guy you said wants to make you laugh, his name is Arsenio Hall, and he is hilarious & is definitely one of the best comedians of all time!!!

@@Acloud1 Regarding your question about race: Son, think about the sports that are overwhelmingly White (Tennis, Golf, Hockey, Swimming, etc)... how much time do you spend watching any of these sports? It's a testament to White America that they learned not to see race, even though everyone else still does.

Ive watched the NBA for 50 years. To me, the 80s were the Golden Age. I was a Celtics fan and Bird was and remains my favorite player. Magic was and remains my second favorite. I always wanted the Celtics to beat the Lakers, but, I actually dropped some tears when Magic had those awful games in the 84 finals. I still have five t-shirts with them on them.

My aunt lived in French lick Indiana. It’s not far from here in Louisville KY. She said she always saw him playing basketball with the older kids who were all black kids. He was like the only white kid playing and was younger so it made him tough and skilled as hell and then he grew up to 6’9” and the rest is history

Think about this: when Star Wars hit in '77 you went and saw it multiple times because once it was out of the theaters you weren't seeing it again. Cable was in about 1% of US homes (and didn't show current movies) and even VCRs were years away. Yes, it was more fun, in every way.

I'm a 60 year old woman, and back in the day, Larry Bird was my favorite player. I loved the rivalry between him and Magic. It's a shame that both had their careers cut short, Magic due to HIV and Larry due to his back injury. (and it was 7 years, not 4, that he played with those back issues) I kind of quit watching NBA games after they retired. I'm glad you dedicated the time to review this documentary, glad you enjoyed it, thanks for posting the reaction.

The Lakers vs Celtics rivalry in the 80s was 100% and 100% pure. Both teams were leaps and bounds better than everyone else. What made it remarkable, was that the league as a whole, was incredibly strong - far better, more talented, and stronger than today's NBA.

I am not knowledgeable about basketball, but I watched every Celtic game I could with my husband while Larry was playing. I am addicted to watching anything I can about Larry Bird or Larry Bird and Magic Johnson on KZread. It’s almost a daily activity. I rarely subscribe, but I subscribed to your channel because of your remarks about racism. It’s nice to see that after all these years (I was around before segregation) there are young people such as yourself, who can’t understand prejudice. It tells me that we’ve made some progress. I’m proud to subscribe to your channel, and I admire you.

Doesnt matter if its Lakers and Celtics. Theyre one entity. This is the best story in sports and the most touching bromance in history. And I say that as a *_Hockey guy._* God damn, I love that this is actually real. Fakking legends, both of them.

43:59 I highly recommend the book on the screen. It was co-written with Bird and Magic and it goes into a lot more detail about the things discussed in this video. It’s a little bit of a dry read, took me several attempts to get through it but I’m glad I read it. 46:59 because back then basketball was played the way it was supposed to be played. The flagrant foul rule introduced in 1991 was a necessary step. They had to do something because there were some players who were basically committing assault. Over time incidental contact started getting called and defensive play started melting away. 1:37:43 yes, that’s the Dream Team. Want a link to a documentary about them? Here’s a link to his fights video kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZKN9ybuyiajfcaw.htmlsi=5gwyES9B2h7j2Caw

You think Canadians like hockey, come to Sweden. I saw one highlight on the sports news of Larry and Magic and it fakking floored me. I was glued to the tv every damn game after that. It took them literally 60 seconds to make me almost addicted to a game I had never offered a second thought and had absolutely 0 intrest in before. Bruh, these two men saved the NBA. Check the history of the NBA up through the 1970s. The NBA had a serious image problem due to the fact that it had a serious drug problem, and fan perception of the league was at an all-time low. The league started a much needed fair but strict drug policy to clean it up. And look it up, but there were a lot of players who were stars of the league and players who had star potential that fell by the wayside. They had every opportunity to remain in the league. The League gave them that, but they kept sliding back and received lifetime bans. The individual stories of those players are sad, but the League had to clean up and it did. Now it needed to gain the fans interest back. And in 1980 after the most watched NCAA championship game in 1979 came Bird & Magic. They started the resurgence but throughout the 80's there came more stars combined with some of the all time greats that were still around and the NBA was back. And their slogan was the NBA was " fan tastic". And it started with Bird & Magic. They saved the NBA.

The reaction that Isaiah Thomas had about his HIV was very hurtful to Magic because they were great friends and he had his own room at Magic's house. When the 1992 Dream Team was formed others (MJ, Pippen) did not want Isaiah on the team but Magic did not push back.

I've written this numberless times: the Greatest Celtic players in the that era of championships were in order of importance to team: Bird, Parrish, Johnson and Mchale. My mom's favorite player was Dennis Johnson.

I grew up in a poor neighborhood in St. Louis, joined the military, went to college, got commissioned, went to combat as a Marine Infantry Officer, later joined the US Postal Service and retired as a Postmaster. The biggest accomplishment of my life was when the Black guys in the park across from the projects started picking me to play in the next game. I get it.

How deep was it? Magic & Bird saved the NBA. That is not an understatement.

I've watched this so many times. It's old so you're not not doing me a favor by watching it. We're doing you a favor educating you through what we grew up with. Intense, physical basketball.

I worked with a black dude back in like, shoot, 2006. He was like 28 and I was only 20yr old but we became cool and would smoke Ls at lunch. But I think he might have thought I was nervous to hang out with black ppl in the wild or something cause one day he goes, “Yo Kurt man, when you gonna come hang out with us? We do the same thing ya’ll do, get high, get drunk, f*ck bitches, play videogames.”😅 I was like, yeah that is pretty much what we do…To this day I feel like that quote should be on billboards promoting racial harmony
