MAGIC FLUIDS focuses on the development of traditional fluid art and color pouring methods for video on the macro scale. The challenge for me was to minimize randomness and to really get control over the fluids in terms of form, speed and direction. I ran R&D for a few month and poured several hundred sheets of paper with paint to finally get a handful of stable methods. This is a very clean style with an almost graphic CG-look, but all properties of real organic visuals. Almost all effects you see in this video were created in camera. The only thing I added in post was lightning on a few shots.
The most important thing for me was to create a practical effect where a color appears from nothing on a totally black canvas and expands to all sides. To achieve this, I made use of a layering technique by stacking paints with different densities and blend them with a flow release medium. Over time, the lower layer breaches the upper layer and starts to float on top. You cannot tell exactly where the top layer will breach, but you have a few seconds to reframe as you see the bottom layer shimmering through.
Another issue I wanted to solve for years was color separation when using marbling techniques. To get clean separation and fast motion at the same time, I worked out a method with printer refill inks and a set of different base mediums to mix each color with. You can see the results in the second part of MAGIC FLUIDS.
Finally, the colors. I decided to limit myself to cyan, magenta and yellow and to get rid of any glitter and metallic this time. In the first part of the video, the edit shuffles back an forth between mono-chromatic and multi-colored scenes several times, because I wanted to establish all the 3 primaries and emphasize their impact when they blend to the full spectrum CMY/RGB. You never can tell to what hue the mixture finally shifts, but I saw pretty much all colors I could think of during these shoots.

This is truly the first HDR video that has made me appreciate HDR. I watched this video with it and without it and it's like night and day. Watching it on a non HDR setting makes all the colours look washed out, but in true HDR they really shine!

This is by far the best high quality 4k video I’ve seen on KZread- please make more but with a 1-2 hour play time so I can leave this playing on the tv in my living room, works perfectly for moving art. So sharp and bright

My favorite 4K HDR testing video by far. The textures are absolutely amazing. No compression artifacts can be found. Most of all, you actually show what colors your display is capable off! That's the #1 thing that the big brands often don't do. The motion together with music is killer too. Fantastic video!

I wish Netflix 4k compression was as good as KZread's! There's always noticeable artifacts on Netflix videos. YT looks as good as Apple TV 4K streaming but takes less bandwidth.

I remember playing this on my Odyssey+ Headset to test the OLED Screen. Just got the Odyssey G8 OLED and this was the first video I came back to. Seriously the best OLED HDR demo ever made. The absolute black contrasted against the explosions is just magic. Thankyou

beautiful! the perfect demo for a good TV or monitor with HDR (seen on a LG27UK850 and the colors were detailed and clean) . At some times it seems it's CGI because the pattern are so perfect that doesn't seem real

halcyondaystunes I would personally, I love OLED picture quality, but because I’m a hardcore gamer I avoided buying one for fear of burn in. I know some countries offer a longer warranty to cover it, but in the U.K we only get the manufacturers 12 months which doesn’t really give me peace of mind. And no I’m not bashing OLED, but the way I use my TV I thought QLED was the safer option.

@@nickxcore74 you that burn-in can be prevented if you take breaks and play videos of solid colours , like an RGB transition so that the pixels can re adjust and not burn , I do it and it works for me

Honestly speaking though, phones these days beat computers loooool. If I play this video on my Mac it will be lagging too much but when I play this on iPhone 12 it is super fluid. Gotta say tho A14 chip is so good.
