Magic explains why 86-87 Lakers are Greatest Team of ALL-TIME
Спорт
Magic Johnson on the 1986-1987 Lakers being the GREATEST TEAM of ALL-TIME over teams like the 1996 Chicago Bulls and 2018 Golden State Warriors. Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and the Los Angelos Lakers would win the NBA championship that year and put together one of the greatest seasons by any team in NBA history.

Never mentioned himself ….awesome…
87 Lakers could compete with any team in any era … I’m a Sonics fan and I got to see them play live in Seattle, court side seats ! They played so well together, no selfishness at all, the concept of team basketball… Fun team to watch, they did it right …
I'm glad he mentioned Riley at the end.
Still the best team ever!
'Magic' super humbled. The Greatest Laker Ever!💪🏼
The 65-win 1986/87 team adjusted from, Kareem being the centerpiece of the offense to, Magic being the central focus! It took the team time to adjust, which, when they did after acquiring Mychael Thompson, they were quite the formidable juggernaut. At one point, from mid-Feb to mid-April after the acquisition, the Lake Show was 27-2 during a 29-gm span! The 1987 Lakers team: 1) could play excellent half-court offense and/or half-court defense when required, 2)were the best fastbreak team in the NBA and had a Top 5 team in transition defense, 3) they had the all-time, single greatest shot (Skyhook) in NBA history when the 24-sec clock was running out or, late in games during a tightly contested game, 4) had a HOF POA (Point of Attack) defender, in Cooper, who won DPOY award in '87, 5) had great versatility in both frontcourt & backcourt. Magic cld play ALL 5 positions! Magic/Cooper/Worthy/Green cld play 3 diff positions regularly well, 6) Magic won '87 MVP! 7) they almost never took games off, were in amazing condition, were the best road team, and could play from in front or behind, 8) Had great coaching, GM, & owner! 9) they were healthy basically all year, 10) were tremendously experienced, focused, and had 3 HOFers on the team! Unlike the '85 Celtics (63-wins), the '97 Jazz (65-wins), the '18 Rockets (65-wins), the '16 Warriors (72-wins), the Lakers won the title in '87; repeated in '88, and were 11-0 in the '89 playoffs until Byron Scott tore his hamstring the day before Gm #1 of the finals, and Magic his, halfway through Gm #2. Detroit swept L.A 4-0! This was one of the greatest teams ever, if not THE GREATEST, that had a formidable 3-year run that will live in company with the gods of Mt. Olympus!
One of the greatest teams of all time, what can I say!!!!🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀
They were up there! Amazing!
“And we had the coach” sounded like some boon docks shit😂

best team ever
I don't care what anyone says the Celtics and the Lakers teams of the 80.s. were the best teams I ever saw
That team went 4-0 against the a good Sonics team in the WCF then 4-2 in the finals. Matchup problems everywhere, good coaching, they were incredible. Worthy was just scorching dudes. Cooper was defensive MVP.

Yes, and when that team had its foot on the gas pedal there’s really nothing an opponent can do. Especially those first 2 games in the finals at the forum. They’d run even after a made basket by the Celtic. It was insane. They ran out of gas in 1988 and the fire was still there in spurts, but by that time it’s tough to stay hungry all those years of deep playoff runs
Facts
The two players that made the 1979 - 1980 to 1987 -1988 Lakers team was none other than the co-captain Ervin Magic Johnson and captain Kareem Abdul Jabbar, along with all players that knew to check their ego’s at the door and sacrifice their talents for greater team efforts and excellence that is the five time champions show-time Lakers. Not to forget to mention the two coaches Jack McKinney RIP and Pat Riley and the man in the front office/Owner with a business vision Doctor Jerry Buss RIP. Who showed that it was no mistake by bringing 10 NBA championships to the Los Angeles Lakers. Legendary.

You're right, but don't leave out Michael Cooper, one of the greatest defensive players in NBA history. His clutch shooting and defense against ranging from Dr. J, Larry Bird and Joe Dumars, it's no wonder why Cap, Buck, and Cooper have 5 rings in the Showtime Era.
RC
SHOWTIME4EVER 👏👏👏👊✌
Lakers the greatest with 17 chips, 32 final appearances, and another one of the greatest teams was kobe and shaqs prime
I’ll tell you one thing Coop would have given Steph problems on defense. Coop played D on players like Bird so he was a tough defender and he had hops and great basketball instincts. He also had excellent timing on his blocks. With his size he would be a problem. Not saying he would shut Steph down cuz dude has mad range on his shot, but having to shoot from they distance due to your size disadvantage eventually costs you because although Steph had good range the percentages for shooting from distance is alot lower than shooting from the elbow or up close to the basket
He is correct
Doesn't say anything about 1986-87 team specifically. They were the best team of in the 80s but the best team IN the 80s was the 86 Celtics.
Boston and LA were equal winners but LA made it look better...
Never noticed it but Magic Johnson and Denzel Washington have the exact same voice
that team also had four #1 picks and a #4. Kareem #1 Magic #1 Worthy #1 M. Thompson #1 Scott. #4
83 sixers..unbeatable
The 85 team was scarier imo....younger kareem and cooper with mcadoo instesd of ac and better bench depth with mcgee kupchak and spriggs ....give me that team

Phil Jackson versus Patrick Riley
1986 1987 Lakers were stacked they have Kareem still on Apex mode magic entering his prime James, worthy beginning to emerge, Byron Scott, a spot of shooter defense of Michael Cooper in a bench filled with depth and size. Against the Chicago Bulls 1996. They will be good. But Kareem skyhook and magic pass will destroy.
Showtime lakers the best team of all time
everything you said is all facts there ain't too many teams that are all-time greats that can beat that team like you said they had everything not to mention they have the only man in history with the Unstoppable shot Kareem Abdul-Jabbar hook shot from 20 feet away from the basket with either hand Unstoppable

Top 5?all time?
Ya except by 87 Kareem was only scoring 16 a game, with 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Those aren't very great stats for a center. I don't have nearly as much respect for Kareem as a lot of people. I clearly remember him either walking down the court, or just not going back down to play D at all, quite a bit in his last few years. It led to a lot of points for their opposition. He whined a lot too. Magic and Worthy carried those late 80s teams, which is evidenced by the fact that the Lakers got back to the finals in 91 with Vlade Divac instead of Kareem.
@eddieG667

Yes he had plenty of possessions walking up the court at 40 years old. But you forget his 31 points in game 6 vs Boston along with blocking shots that game, his re-emergence in the Utah series in 1988 vs Utah, and his game 3 vs Detroit in 89. The Lakers badly missed him in 1990 in the Phoenix loss and the spacing just wasn’t the same especially for Worthy who got doubled a lot more. Byron Scott’s game was probably affected the most with Kareem’s departure

By the end of ‘85 Cap logged 55,107 mins. At age 40 in the ‘87 playoffs, he shot 7 FTA/G at 79.5%, avg. 19 PPG. Throw in 7 RPG & 2 BPG in only 31 MPG, this 7’2” beast gave Pat Riley a pretty good big man to compliment peak versions of Magic, Cooper and Worthy and prime versions of Scott, Green, Thompson and Rambis.
