مائے نی مائے! میرے گیتاں دے نیناں وچ برہوں دی رڑک پوے ادھی ادھی راتیں اٹھ رون موئے متراں نوں مائے سانوں نیند نہ پوے ٭ ماں اے میری پیاری ماں میرے گیتوں کی آنکھوں میں جدائی (کی کسک) اٹکتی ہے آدھی آدھی رات کو اٹھ کر جب یہ (گیت) مر چکے دوستوں کی یاد میں روتے ہیں تو ہمیں نیند نہیں آتی۔ ٭٭ بھیں بھیں ، سگندھیاں وچ بنھاں پھہے چاننی دے تاں وی ساڈی پیڑ نہ سہوے کوسے کوسے ساہاں دی میں کراں جے ٹکورمائے سگوں سانوں کھان نوں پوے ٭ چاندنی کے پھاہے خوابوں میں بھگو بھگو کر باندھنے کے باوجود بھی ہمارے درد کی ٹیسیں کم نہیں ہوتیں بلکہ اگر میں (اس پہ) گرم گرم سانسوں کی ٹکور کروں تو الٹا ہمیں کاٹ کھانے کو لپکتا ہے۔ ٭٭ آپے نی میں بالڑی ہاں میں حالے آپ متاں جوگی مت کہڑا ایس نوں دوے؟ آکھ سونی مائے ایہنوں رووے بلھ چتھ کے نی جگ کتے سن نہ لوے ٭ ابھی تو میں خود بچپنے کی عمر میں ہوں۔ ابھی تو میں خود نصیحتوں کی حقدار ہوں۔ (اب تم خود انصاف کرو کہ ایسے میں) اسے کون نصیحت کرے۔ میری پیاری ماں تم اسے سمجھاؤ نا کہ روتے وقت ہونٹ چبا لیا کرے ، کہیں دنیا والے (اس کی گریہ و زاری) سن نہ لیں۔ ٭٭ آکھ سونی کھا لئے ٹک ہجراں دا پکیا لیکھاں دے نی پٹھڑے توے چٹ لئے تریل لونی غماں دے گلاب توں نی کالجے نوں حوصلا رہوے ٭ پیاری ماں اسے کہو نا کہ ہجر (کے تندور) پہ پکی ہوئی روٹی کھا لے۔ نصیب کے توے تو الٹے پڑے ہیں۔ (اِسے کہو کہ) غموں کے گلاب سے نمکین شبنم چاٹ لے ، (تاکہ) کلیجے کو حوصلہ رہے (الٹا توا فاقے اور سوگ کی علامت ہے) ٭٭ کہڑیاں سپیریاں توں منگاں کنج میل دی میں میل دی کوئی کنج دوے کہڑا ایہناں دماں دیاں لوبھیاں دے دراں اتے وانگ کھڑا جوگیاں رہوے ٭ (تم ہی بتاؤ) میں کونسے سپیروں سے وصال کی ڈوری مانگوں کہ مجھے کوئی وصال کی ڈوری دے دو۔ (تم ہی کہو) کون ان سانسوں کے منکوں سے بنی مالا گلے میں ڈالے جوگیوں کی طرح (بے نیازانہ) کھڑا رہے۔ ٭٭ پیڑے نی پیڑے ایہ پیار ایسی تتلی ہے جہڑی سدا سول تے بہوے پیار ایسا بھور ہے نی جہدے کولوں واشنا وی لکھاں کوہاں دور ہی رہوے ٭ درد ارے او میرے ضدی درد یہ پیار تو ایسی تتلی ہے جو ہمیشہ تکلیف (کے پھول) پر بیٹھتی ہے۔ پیار ایسا بھنورا ہے کہ جس سے خوشبو بھی لاکھوں کوس دور ہی رہنا پسند کرتی ہے۔ (ایک کوس دو میل کے برابر ہوتا ہے) ٭٭ پیار او محل ہے نی جہدے چ پکھیروواں دے باجھ کجھ ہور نہ رہوے پیار ایسا آلھنا ہے جہدے چ نی وصلاں دا رتڑا نہ پلنگ ڈہوے ٭ (اے میرے درد) پیار وہ محل ہے جس میں (موسمی) پرندوں کے سوا کوئی نہیں رہتا پیار ایسا آشیانہ ہے جس میں ملن کا سرخ سا پلنگ کبھی نہیں بچھتا ٭٭ آکھ مائے ، ادھی ادھی راتیں موئے متراں دے اُچی اُچی ناں نہ لوے متے ساڈے مویاں پچھوں جگ ایہ شریکڑا نی گیتاں نوں وی چندرا کہوے ٭ ماں !! اسے سمجھاؤ نا کہ یوں آدھی آدھی رات کو بلند آواز میں رفتگان (مر چکے) پیاروں کے نام نہ لیا کرے۔ کہیں ایسا نہ ہو کہ ہمارے مرنے کے بعد یہ حاسد اور ٹوہ باز معاشرہ ان گیتوں (فریادوں) کو بھی حماقت کہے۔ مائے نی مائے ٭٭پنجابی کلام: ۔ شیو کمار بٹالوی

😢.. This person is something we can say out of the world. Even in 2023 his soulful voice is extremely excited.

This master piece took me 20 year's back.. in my room with tape recorder .. i realize that um NFAK fan from my Birth.

This song addresses a mother, while my late father used to listen to it and I was always,"Abu ye ap kya sun rahay hain?". Now he's no more, passed away a year before. Missing him a lot, with each breath I take. May he rest in peace and may my mother live long.

The poet is talking to his mother as a daughter who shares her grief and frustrations. The mother is being asked to advise “Songs”(which are personified here) as the poets' efforts to talk to them or console them have been in vain. As much as the poet is trying to hide the "Birha" (Pain of Separation) from the world, the "Songs" can't keep that pain in. (They keep crying at night and do not let the poet sleep peacefully). The poet is most intimate to the paper. Here, poet can hide his pain from the world but he is unable to conceal his pain when he is writing. The “Songs” are to be blamed as the face hides everything but the ”Songs” reveal it. (They are asked to cry with sealed lips) Shiv wants to be a Jogi, unaffected by pain but calls his “Songs” greedy (Lobhi) who always demand (Gham). Here is the literal translation - Mother O Mother , The eyes of my “songs” pain, as if there’s a pebble in them (Pain is compared to an irritation) My “Songs” wake up at night and cry remembering old dead friends. They don’t let me sleep. I have dipped the “Songs” in fragrances and laid them out in moonlight, yet they don’t feel my pain(or frustration of trying to keep everything hidden) I try to blow on them(as if to calm them down). They, in return, are biting me back. Mother O mother I am still a young girl, I seek advice from others How am I to counsel them Tell these “Songs” , O mother, to cry with sealed lips, lest the world hears them crying Mother O Mother Tell them, O Mother, to eat the bread of grief as the fate is grim(doomed) Lick the tears(or dew) off the roses of grief, it will give them some courage Mother O Mother Which snake charmer will give me a skin that matches them(As if to disguise the pain) But my “songs” are so greedy for grief, how can I be an ascetic while standing on their door Mother O Mother O Grief, love is a butterfly who always choses to sit on the thorn, Love is a bee from which the (fruit of) desire will stay millions of miles away Mother O mother Love is that palace in which only birds live, Love is that courtyard where no red colored bed of union(of lovers) will be laid Mother O Mother O mother tell these “Songs” to not cry out the names of dead lovers What if, when I die, this world would call these “Songs” wicked Mother O Mother

In Pakistan native cultures and languages are not given importance…Punjabi, Pashto, Sindhi, balochi and many others instead sidelined and given importance to imported Urdu from India who native population have no historical connections too, I hate this Urdu language with all my heart.

This Song pure shows that's only mother's is 💯% true relationship on Earth to whome every son or daughter can share his/her pains of life...that is the reason Poet addressed the mother to share the pain of separation...

خان صاحب کو ایک مرتبہ لایو دیکھنے کا اتفاق ھوا تھا...اتنی اچھی آواز دوبارہ نہیں سنی.. کمال کے گلوکار تھے.. نہایت ھی مشکل الفاظ اتنی آسابی سے بول جاتے کہ حیرت ھوتی .
