Tina wore it well and just never seemed to age and did it naturally, as far as we know. Cher is another who should have quit along time ago. She also wound up looking scary and nothing like her former self. Madonna was always shallow and cheap, Cher, too, although, I used to like Cher in the beginning. Then, she went all trampy. I never liked Madonna. It's ironic that her name means "My Lady."

Aging is b/s! I lost the will to age, get old and die. My mind and body are following with that mind set to go backwards. Perfect point. The problem with Madonna, unlike the rest of those women, is that she built her fame on looks and sex appeal. She was a good performer, but looks and sex appeal fade with age, and she didn't develop (for the lack of a better word) a certain "je ne sais quoi". Instead, she tried to hold on to the easy mantra of "sex sells".

Remember when Michael Jackson had all this terrible plastic surgery, and literally every rag in the world publicized photos of it, tearing him down and making fun of it? Madonna isn't even gettng a FRACTION of that abuse, and now it's misogyny and discrimination? Gimme a break.

I live in a small town and in my twentys I was a malestriper and definitely pushed a few buttons. I have always kept a good appearance. I take care of myself and at 62 look younger than I am. But, people criticize me for not letting my hair go grey say my face is to smooth and put me down. I pay no attention to them and just Liv my best life. This criticizeisum is not just for women.

For a celebrity spouting about self-acceptance, this is not a good message, and maybe not what she intended. By the way, I’ve followed Madonna since the 80s, and she has been a cultural influence, and I respect her, for the most part. I think a lot of her thing is shock value, and maybe this is what she’s doing.

One definition of ageism: When a woman has enough plastic surgery to turn her face into a disaster in an effort to not look her actual age.

Sometimes people have to look beyond the what and ask why: Societal expectations for women to remain young looking at all costs. I made a further comment below, but if men were as accepting of woman aging as women are of men, it would be a whole different world. Love yourself, and lose that haters.

This has little to do with misogyny in my opinion although I agree that women do have to deal with ageism far more then men. So why do I say in Madonna's case this has little to do with misogyny? For two reasons: 1. This has everything to do with totally botched plastic surgery which can (and does) happen with younger people too. And reason #2: Cumulatively, over the years, I've heard more comments about Mickey Rourke's wrecked face due to botched plastic surgery than any one woman (even more times than I heard comments about Jocelyn Wildenstein, the "cat lady").
