I have to correct your info a bit but the Madonna album is her first album, which had all but two songs released as single… Everybody/Physical Attraction, Burning Up, Holiday, Borderline, Lucky Star. Only Think of me and I know It weren’t released as singles but were besides. Also Jellybean did as a producer. He was a writer. Reggie Lucas was part of the writing team. What is really interesting is that Madonna wrote five of the songs on the album herself alone. Which she really isn’t given the credit as an artist then but thought of as a just a singer. Holiday Think of Me Borderline she didn’t write. Getting the demo is applaudable but the metadata is incorrect.

This is NOT a demo, but a mix put together with the leaked instrumental and vocal stems... And the ONLY songwriter was Reggie Lucas, Jellybean co-produced, he didn't write anything. RIP Reggie Lucas...!

I thought Jellybean only remixed the song as Lucas was sole producer. While Jellybean got credit for remixing "Lucky Star," "Burning Up," and "Physical Attraction," he never was credited for co-producer on the album, just the 7" and 12". MADONNA is still one of her best albums due largely in part to Reggie Lucas. His album version is still the best officially released version.

Yeah, this isn't a demo. This is more than likely her vocal rehearsal of an early take of the song. That is definitely the piano used on the master as well as the background vocals. No one puts background singers on a demo. That costs money.

I agree totally. This is most likely the vocal track with, what sounds to me the prerecorded piano a backing vocal tracks; unless you think they are all recorded at the same time, which I can agree with also. But, I agree, it isn't a demo. Actually, I like these tracks better than the demos, or at least as much.

@@wildstar4971 This is either a broken down version of what I have too. Borderline was recorded in multiple stages from January 20, 1983 up until February 18, 1983 and continually refined until about March 2, 1983. Then Jellybean Benitez made the changes that we all know in late March/April 1983. I have a sheet from Sigma Studios of Borderline dated 1-20-83 and the tracks for vocals, instrumentation, which were individually dated. Her lead vocals were recorded February 17, 1983 and a rough mix was executed on February 18, 1983. This is one of two lead vocal tracks from February 17, so maybe it's remade? Someone removed the main lead vocal track, either Reggie Lucas himself or a fan did it.

I hate making unfair accusations, but like a few other people, I have the working version of Borderline in unmastered form, but in a layered format. She started recording the core album in November 1982, but Holiday, Lucky Star, and Borderline were gradually crafted during January to March 1983. Burning Up as you know, was ready to go by January 1983 and released March 9th. Someone played with the Borderline session files and kept only a few stems. These vocals match what I have. I am reviewing the sheet for the many dates of recording on this song, to cross check what is in this "demo". Piano portion was definitely recorded January 24, 1983.
