Madeley Junction to Lightmoor Disused Railway

On this journey I explore what came to be known as the 'Power Station Line' down to Ironbridge Power Station. Originally this was a mainly freight line serving the Ironworks in the Lightmoor and Horsehay areas. Lightmoor later became a junction when the line from Wellington to Buildwas opened. The power station closed in November 2015 thus making this Shropshire's newest disused railway.

My late father took me on the footplate around 1977 and during his shift we delivered a train of coal to the power station. I remember watching in amazement the coal waggons being emptied. the engine had a super slow setting. I think my father had to set the speed to about 1,5 mile's an hour. slow enough to get off and walk down to the coal drops. I remember it was raining had we had some wheel slip on the climb out which shows how steep the incline out of the valley. I hope the line does become preserved so I can relive that day.

This line is actually due to be reopened by both the TSR and there is eyes for a commuter service from either Birmingham or Wolverhampton via Madeley Junction. Not sure where is meant to reopen but check out the link here: www.shropshirestar.com/news/business/2018/11/15/detailed-masterplan-to-be-created-of-former-ironbridge-power-station-site/

the track adjacent to the platform at coalbrookdale was not disused as long as you assumed, Lighmoor Jn - Ironbridge was operated double track until the resignalling of the Wolverhampton - Shrewsbury line circa 2007 when the Madely Jn - Ironbridge line became a single line operation throughout

Do you have any of the names of the people in the photographs? I'm trying to track down an ancestor recorded on an 1851 census as being a "roade lab" in Shrewbury and dying in Lightmoor. His name was James Bayley and I believe he was a quaker. Do you know what he might have been doing...ie. what is meant by roade lab and if the Bailey Bridge at Bayston Hills might have been named after him? Any information you know at all that might be useful would be greatly appreciated!
