Supplying domestic and international markets their demands for material goods, Chinese manufacture and trade is a titan force in the global economy. In this episode, we take a look at the trade between Chinese and Filipinos, and what it meant for something to be “made in China.”

    To answer the first question, the first thing I think of when I see something was made in China (at least in terms of household goods) was that it's probably made out of cheap material and may potentially have been created by exploited workers. It's fascinating to see that they were once considered the bearers of luxury--of things so fantastic and beautiful, it looks as if it took the Ming Gap for Southeast Asian countries to make serious attempts to compete (or at least it took the lack of new gorgeous ceramics from China for our ancestors to consider other suppliers). Also, that's the best delivery I've ever heard of the word "swag" 😁
