Made for Play: Board Games & Modern Industry
Ойындар
Jettingen Germany is home to Ludo Fact, one of the world's largest manufacturers of board and card games.
This documentary shows how a board game makes the leap from an idea to your table.
You'll see every aspect of the manufacturing process: the technology and machines, the many detailed steps, and the hundreds of people that are involved in the production of a single game.
Mostly, we hope the film gives you a greater appreciation of the time, effort and investment that goes into every quality board game that makes it to the marketplace and your home. The business of fun requires a lot of hard work!

The engineers behind these (any) factory machines are the unsung heroes. They deserve 6-figures in my book. Board games bring me so much joy that I'm thankful for everyone involved with the process. All for the cost of one dinner out, I get hours and hours of thoughty connection with friends.

Agreed on all accounts. Thanks for watching!
So many people's efforts come together to enable someone else's few minutes of joy!
Wooden/plastic pieces are important to some games, sure, but the color printing and the cardboard for boxes and tokens are very important to the process for every game Ludo Fact makes. If you watch the entire documentary, I think we show how these parts are essential to every game.
Very good film, I use it in my Advanced Marketing class and my students get to design their own games and we play the games on the last day of the unit. This film was very informative about the manufacturing and logistics process of creating game. Thank You!
This really makes me value the hard work that is required to create board games. Amazing documentary.

This is sure to make any communist shudder in their commune.
Great job. After watching the assembly line, I am amazed more games don't get opened to missing components. That looks to be an insanely tough job.
This video is amazing. As I get myself into a hobby of Desktop Publishing and print-and-play games and design, I realize after watching how much I take for granted in the large-scale production of even the smallest of game print runs.
Thanks for watching! We certainly hope the film gives people a new appreciation and perspective on the world of games.

Thanks to you all. There's a tremendous effort behind each box and we hope the film does a good job highlighting all the fine work that goes into every game.
This is a fantastic documentary! I have not been able to find one so thorough yet digestible as this. Thanks to you and LudoFact for the inside look!
This was spectacular! Thank you for making this video, and thanks to every single man or woman working in Ludo Fact for bringing the fun on our tables!
I would like a documentary on the story BEFORE the producing and printing (i.e. Develoment, ideas, testplaying, making the rules etc.)

Sample Room = A Board Game Geek's Fort Knox! But really, this is an amazing documentary. It's the A to Z for board game manufacturing. And my hat is off to those ladies and gentlemen on the assembly line. Everytime I see assembly lines like that, it truly amazes me.
Wow the color kitchen and other methods of cataloguing custom tools, shapes, and print runs are awesome =)

Thank you for this video, sir. Not enough of these out there.
Awesome job Stephen and Dave!! Very entertaining and informative...really enjoyed seeing a "How it's Made" approach to my favorite hobby.
Thanks for this wonderful video, and thanks to all these people that are creating our games!!!!
Really well done. Fantastic production quality, educational, and great music too!
That was really cool. I would love to see one on the entire DESIGN & ART process.
Time for another round of thanks. Response has been just great thus far! We're glad the film helps show people the world of games from a perspective they've probably never seen before.
A great cool video for table top gamers to see how their favorite German board games are made. I saw my 7 Wonders! "The Windmill" machine for game boards spinning around was very European in the windmill design. Love it! Ludo Fact has a secret vault of every game run they've ever made for every publisher? Treasure trove!
Thanks, Sascha! So glad you enjoyed it.
Awesome work guys. I really enjoyed the in depth look into the making of boardgames. I have to go donate now. Content this good should be rewarded. Thanks for providing it for free.
Thank you so much for uploading this. It's a wonderful insight into the board game manufacturing process! And I'm sure many hobby designers like myself will benefit from watching it :)

Great documentary. Really interesting insight into how board games are made. There's a game I'm designing that I would like to see produced one day. Luckily, it doesn't have any unique shapes with any of the cardboard pieces. There are lots of tiles required but they are square shaped.
This needs more views.

Very interesting. I worked primarily as a scupltor for a table top miniatures company in the 80s' (Heritage Models, Dallas, Texas) but I was also involved with mold making and casting for a while. In this video I saw lots of parallels with the behind the scenes manufacturing, packaging and shipping process.

Thanks very much! Gosh I think I may have a few of y our minis here in my collection! :) I can see how there would be lots of parallels in the process since both start out as creative endeavors and end up as a series of manufacturing challenges that are interesting in their own way.

Fascinating! 2.5 million Euros for a 6 color printing press setup ... that was 11 years ago ... I wonder how much that would cost today!!

+Raffaele Passarelli the process has not changed much at all. Some publishers use digital printing instead of the traditional 6 color process shown in the film but the basic steps are essentially the same.
