To all the people coming here to hate: 1. This is HARDCORE. Not metal, not hard rock, not anything but NY Hardcore, or NYHC. 2. As it is hardcore, which is all at about doing what makes you happy and no one else, they choose to dress as they do, are you all really commenting on how guys dress? Come on. 3. Even if they dress in a way that is sort of like "Hip-Hop", what's wrong with that? Both genres began out of the hardships and frustrations of the working class, they just began in different areas of NY. While admittedly, mainstream contemporary Hip-Hop is garbage, there are many underground artists that really bring it as the pioneers once did (and in some cases still do). 4. Who cares if they're hanging out or getting haircuts or whatever in the video? Hardcore is all about simplicity. They just filmed them hanging out and having fun. Just about every other genre has musicians that do this as well, so don't pick on Madball for no reason. 5. Back to Hip-Hop really quick, Freddy (the lead singer) put out an album, a Hip-Hop album, back in 2009. 6. And finally, if you really don't like their music or video or anything like that, why waste your time commenting on said videos? Get a life people. Jeez. -A young, but dedicated, fan of both NYHC and Hip-Hop

This video is one of the best if not THE best Madball video ever. A fantastic flashback of old times and new times. Love the images of the kids, the old school images, the pics of Vinnie with Freddy. Just fantastic. A massive tribute to the entire DMS crew.

"The beauty of punk rock & hard core was always that it was just a term. It has regional definitions and even within regions, one person can say punk rock and get one picture. It's a secret language, frankly. You can say it to one person and they get one idea and you say it to another person and they get a totally different idea from the same words. It's really just a secret language and people who know, know, and people who don't, don't" - Ian MacKaye

The Video Editing has been exceptionally well done on this. The computer graphics art on those tattoo typefaces, the newspaper style stuff, and the locations are all well-designed. Especially in the case of a photo of Danny Diablo rolling past the screen, this music video's fantastic. "For the black, for the blue" is a lyric that Madball works nicely, leaving out all the hardcore violent aggression, coloring the distorted guitar sound, like subway hissing into a station.

I'm 48 yrs old now and have been listening to hardcore music since the beginning. Agnostic front and the Misfits and the Ramones were the pioneers of this movement along with the Dead Kennedys . Madball have carried this music on until today along with Sick of it All and all the other hardcore bands of today. Does it really matter that much as to how people look or dress, stop being a negative hater. If you don't like it......don't fucking listen to or watch these types of bands and leave it to the people who do......long live NYHC!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some of these comments really crack me up, hearing people hating on what they are wearing, the name of the song. People don’t really get what this entire thing is about. If you actually read the lyrics it’s about the comradery, friendships , and brotherhood like feeling that came out of the hardcore “scene”, not just in NYC but everywhere. And if you did 5 minutes of internet research, you would see that DMS actually referred to the ‘DMS crew” which is what a collective of NY bands loosely referred to themselves as. Like a lot of other kids growing up, I really felt like I fit in with the “normal “ crowd at school, but I also didn’t fit in with the hate everything f- the world punk kids that were totally nihilistic. I always found it funny that the kids that claimed to be punks and so individual literally just did the same thing as preppy kids but just wore a different style of fashion and conformed to having purple hair died with punky color and spiked wristbands they paid big money for at “punk” stores, spent an hour spiking their hair in the mornings, then turned around and called people conformist losers. That’s not to say I wasn’t into punk or friends with those kids, It was just as common for me to have a NOFX, Bad Religion, or Crass album on as it was Sick Of It All , but it was also just as common for me to have Enter the Wu Tang 36 Chambers on. Just because I never felt like I identified personally with the “in”crowd at school didn’t mean that I didn’t like wearing clothing I thought looked cool and I looked good in, and It didn’t mean that I didn’t work out just because the jocks did it, and it didn’t mean I intentionally failed out of school because only the preppie kids got good grades. And It sure as hell didn’t mean that I talked down about all other music styles and stuck my head in the sand and refused to listens to any other kinds of music. From what I see, this melting pot mindset of sorts was common in the era, and had a lot of influence into the sound and style you commonly see associated with the late 80’s and 90’s second wave of HC associated with NY -buzzing guitars, down beats with a groove, aggressive lyrics, and a “fashion” style that had definite hip hop influence in clothing and dudes that that spent time in the gym and took a few minutes to look good before they left the house. When I would roll into those shows as a high school kid and the bands played, I felt at home with the other kids there. When you were there, you felt good, you felt different. You felt like people got you. You drank 40’s in the parking lot together with people you just met, and took out negative energy slamming in the pit but you never tried to actually hurt one another - if someone fell everyone picked him back up, if someone need to tie their shoe people would put their arms out and push a huge circle back so they had space to do it. Over all It felt like everyone had each others backs. For those couple hours at the show you felt alive, you didn’t feel like an outcast, you felt normal. You look at the lyrics of NYHC songs from the era and they generally have a positive message- your tough, nothing can stop you, you can do it your own way and get through life, you got this and your boys got your back and we stick together so f*** what the others say. You look at this song and it’s a reflection of the past. It’s looking back at the over 20 years spent in HC, giving their all to it. Think about it, they say over and over again “ I do this for them, I do this for you.” They talk about sticking togeteher and succeeding when everyone says you will fail, about keeping strong regardless of people trying to beat you down. I am a 30 something year old guy that came up second wave of HC we typically call NYHC style. Personally, this song and video strikes a deep chord with me. HC got me through some tough times growing up. My boys and I never fit in and I never felt like we clicked with most people and HC said that was Ok. HC’s message was do what you want, do it your way and you will make it, and you can look fly doing it. HC said were all brothers and to have each others back. I look back now 20 some years later and it rings true. My boys and I stuck together and helped each other over the years and we made it. I am a college graduate, I have a good job that pays great money, I own my own home, I am married to an amazing women and I still consider my boys my brothers. I did it on my own terms. I am not trying to talk myself up, but rather proving a point- HC spoke to me saying me that I could do it and success was for everyone. It said to me that I was tough as nails and could get through anything. It taught me that my boys are my brothers and they will take a bullet for me and I would for them. That is what it was all about. This song and video illustrate all that- HC kids all grown up-pictures of each others weddings and with each others kids, drinking as adults at the bar with your life long friends, lyrics looking back saying we made it and shout outs to the ones who were lost along the way. HC as a scene in a traditional sense may very well be dead when compared to what it was before, but HC will live forever in people.

From a few places I read, HC isn't really about music, but more like an individual thing. The best place where this mindset need to spring out should be in asian countries such as Japan and South Korea, with a godly-dominating established corporatism, raising kids to be their workers and such. In a nutshell, pave your own fucking way, even if it's a road less travelled. Some people just don't seem to understand ideas behind it.

@Paul Shepherd This comment makes no sense. Hardcore back in the day was about the working class. That why they had shows for 5 bucks or you could bring can items cause people were broke. Rich kids pretending to be poor are indeed posers. That's why people took there martins.
