Madame de Pompadour - Tutorial | Beauty Beacons
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
I'm going to tell you all about the French king's mistress Madame de Pompadour and her beauty rituals. How did she do her makeup and hair? We're revisiting 18th century hairstyling for this one, in an earlier, more toned down version.

First of all I have to say that I really like how much effort you put into your videos. By providing so much context to your tutorials you make them extra-fun to watch. I'd really like you to do a beauty beacons video about Hedy Lamarr because she wasn't just stunningly beautiful but incredibly smart as well.
I love hearing about how intelligent all these beautiful women were :D

dude she was the king mistress not all historical women were mentioned in history books because of "intelligence" but because they sleep with the king.
@Lamaspucke

+meow23 You don't understand the title of Mistress, the king slept with many women, but only those capable of entertaining him in other ways too got that position. They had serious influence and power.

yo double chin was in back then! so beautiful! (I'm in the wrong century)
Billie Holiday! The classic look of huge elegant flowers in her hair.
I'd love to have met her and converse with her. It's almost impossible to assess what people really looked like by those paintings: today we have stress on eyebrows and big lips and people often photoshop such attributes: whereas in Pompadour's time, they loved rosebud lips, plumpness and tiny hands and feet and faked it in painted portraits, haha. Nominating Anne of Austria, Xishi, Queen Louise of Prussia, Mata Hari, Ava Gardner. Frida Kahlo too, though she's not generally acknowledged for beauty. It would be fun to see an Indian or another exotic (from a European/Western stand point) lady, but It's difficult to find specific ones and what they looked like, not being in the know.

Yeah, they're beautiful by that time's standards. It makes me feel happy because I'm plump and I have rosebud lips like them. Kowing that they were beauty standards back then makes me feel less inclined to follow today's beauty standards :)
Please do Empress Josephine, i would love to see a look inspired by her as she was a big fashion icon!:-)

As a history fanatic this series gives me LIFE! Keep up the good work, lots of love from Finland
Thank you for choosing Madame de Pompadour 😊. The hair was beautiful, and the video was great like always!
7:59 More is more in the Rococó period! I loved it! Ha ha ha!
I know you've already done Madame de Pompadour but could you do a hair tutorial of one of the hairstyles worn by the actress who plays Madame de Pompadour in the Doctor Who episode 'The girl in the fireplace' ? She had several different styles of hair, make up and costumes in that episode and they were all very beautiful.
joan of arc joan of arc joan of arc!!!
I've heard a certain hairstyle can make a woman the most beautiful of all. This Madame De Pompadour makes you look heavenly beautiful.
And I just watched a picture of Madame Pompadour on Instagram this morning and was very intrigued to learn about her and of course, I noticed you made a video... Love the info and the hairdo!!! Keep making more!!
Actually, a bit of a double chin was considered attractive in the 17th and first half of the 18th century. Great videos though, I just found you today and have subscribed! :-) When I have the patience, I'm definitely going to try this. What do you think about using dry shampoo instead of flour? Most dry shampoos have a white powdery look to them.
I love this series! I don't want it to end :) Please do Jean Harlow, Rita Hayworth, and Veronica Lake.
Please do Nefertiti or Empress Valeria Messilina
I love all your videos! I love history and fashion, so when I watch your videos I get both!❤️
I love your videos so much! Theyre so unique here on youtube and you are really talented and smart 😀❤️
Such an interesting video! I love the 18th century but I didn't know much about Madame de Pompadour till now. And her look is lovely on you.
So pretty! Ideas: Mary Queen of Scots, Mary Pickford :)
Now I really need an event to go to so I can try this look out! Awesome tutorial as always Lucy! :D
That's a really lovely look - although not really wearable on an everyday basis. ^^ I'm so impatient to see these videos each week ! :D
I need this bow in my life :( can't find something similar
I love these videos!! 😊
I love this look
I love your Tutorials . :D
I was so happy when I found your channel because I too have a huge huge passion for the history of fashion and love recreating hair styles from all sorts of different eras. I normally use talcum powder when I'm going for an 18th century hairstyle, but the idea of using flour intrigues me! I'd love to see some regency tutorials (Jane Austen inspired perhaps?)
Yaaaay, I love these 18th century looks! :D
This channel needs more views/subscriptions. Brilliant!
I saw her most famous painting (the one in the green dress, made by François Boucher) in a museum. Next to it it said she wanted to look both beautiful and smart on it. She‘s gorgeous and a huge inspiration.
Lovely vid! Please do one of the Romonav sisters!
this was a great video. Diane de Poitiers is another French mistress.
You always look amazing but in this video you look extra cute :). I'm drooling over your white top with the embroidery patches... Where did you shop it from?

Please do Jean Harlow !!!
:) Your videos always make me smile. :)
This is such a wonderful series. I love learning about these amazing women. I also would like to request Frida Khalo. She was very intelligent and strong-willed, as well as beautiful.
loveee thiss
I love your videos so much!!!! Please do Maria Felix!!!!
Ahh, so great, thank you Loepsi! (I'm one of those who requested Madame Pompadour.) I like the style because it seems quite hair friendly (well, at least friendlier than other 18th century styles you did) because there's no teasing involved (yay for LHC nerds). The little curling things are called "Papilotten" in German, I guess it's quite a word like that in Dutch and quite alike in English. Papilots? :D Hmm, I'd suggest Debbie Harry for another BB, but she had a quite simple style that you already covered in a time-style video, I think. Have a great first advent! :)
i'd love to see your take on nell gwyn!
wow I really love it , i will make my hair like this lol
It be cool to see Catherine de' Medici,
I love your videos!! Please do Queen Elizabeth I or Queen Victoria
Love this series! How about Queen Victoria, Mata Hari or Nitta Sayuri! :)

Rococo was elegant, beautiful, ladylike, and posh Nowhere near crazy or hilarious. Also, you spell it LOL (laugh out loud) not loll (laugh out loud loud )did you even do spell check?Or were you too lazy and immature to even edit one comment. As a lady who is interested in this fashion, I suggest you do more research before childishly making fun of such a lavish time of fashion history. ( i also love cute things so please do mind my seemingly oddly bright icon)

You can tell she also had a great personality by the way she looks in her portraits. Also her home looks like it belonged to a smart, business like woman. Her library looks interesting

I've seen many paintings of Madame Pompadour in museums all over America and its nice to put a current day human face on it. They made a movie about Madame Pompadour in the 1930s. I never saw it. Should I?

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASEEEE DO CHER!!
Those are flexi rods. I use them all the time
Beauty is very trend oriented. Back in 16, 17, and 1800's you had all kinds of diseases hitting you left and right trying to take you out. So, a plumpness or softness became sexualized since visually you looked healthy, where as skinny like todays standard was seen as sickly or vulnerable. Also, in these periods femininity of both sexes was the highest symbol of upper class or nobility. The Plumper, the paler, the prettier....the better !
we call the curls barrel curls
a lot of women in that time don't look beautiful in the same way we would think of as beautiful. the women were often more plump than is considered attractive today... and they had fads that we would scoff at today...
Elisabeth von Wittelsbach! aka princess Sissi ;) her hair was quiite long, haha ;)
