Madam Secretary - Carrying the Gold Interview - S5E19

Ойындар

Elizabeth gives an interview to dissuade belief of the allegations between the Secretary and President Dalton affair 20 years previous and continues to turn the conversation from a talking point into something akin to a speech.
I do not own the rights to any of this, that honor goes to CBS.

I admire the quality of 「 Madam Secretary 」 No other country can produce a program as good as it . The prime - time programs on Japanese commercial TV are full of childish and stupid comedy shows that are trying to make the Japanese people morons Japan's commercial broadcasters are the epitome of incompetence , ineptitude and irresponsibility From Tokyo of the Land of the Rising Sun 🇯🇵

I can't speak to that, but I'll agree that this show has certain truths to it which haven't been put out anywhere else on national television. Showing both the the political aspects that nobody's ever truly delved into (even in purely political shows) and the family aspect. All the while finally seeing a woman in a position of pure power and handling it extremely well all things considered. Again, I can't speak in regards to other countries, but I feel like if there was only one show of it's kind that was able to originate in a certain country (Especially with the climate being the way it is), it would be Madam Secretary in America. Britain has some amazing shows as well, but not so much concerning politics (or at least not great ones). Now that I think about it, I other countries could do it, but they just seem either amazingly unwilling to try, or don't bother because the real big money markets are America and Britain (as far as I know).

Owen Callister, senator and her opponent in her upcoming presidential race. Madam Secretary never manages to create a character as dangerous as Trump, because he’s so far removed from conventional politics as to be basically inimitable. They do a good job portraying the dangers of nationalistic politics, but they only go so far as to get DeSantis-like characters.

She was talking about every single opponent of an election, Hillary lost, thats how trump became president, she was viewed as so awful, the only person to vote for was the other person, if anyone else had been in opposition they would have also won

I agree with this entire message except for the take on nationalism. I think its good to be proud of the nation your living in. Its good to want to better that nation on the world stage. Where it turns dangerous is when someone wants to advance a single nation at the cost of the others. When it wants to impose its will and values on the rest of the world. That and when a nation acts superior to others and sees anyone not from that nation as lesser or inferior to themselves.

You’re using the ideas of patriotism and nationalism interchangeably and there is a huge distinction between the two. The latter is what you are describing as “dangerous”.

De Gaulle said patriotism was loving your country; Nationalism was hating other countries. I am paraphrasing.

Healthy *patriotism* can be good. That’s being proud of your country and working to better it, as well as to hold it accountable where it strays. *Nationalism* is the toxic idea that your country or nationality is superior to others, working for its betterment at the cost of others and letting yourself be imbued with hatred for those you don’t see as like yourself. That is what Madam Secretary season 5 focuses on, and what is sadly a major part of our contemporary politics. We need to do as she says, to “never stop fighting to save this Great Experiment.”
