Madam Pimpernel/Paris Underground 1945.

Музыка

A 1945 film starring Constance Bennett and Gracie Fields, both were coming to the end of their film careers. Tightly directed by Gregory Ratoff. Both Bennett and Fields, are trapped in Nazi paris, they go on to rescue shot down airmen, and help them reach the English Channel. The film was released some five months after VE day in October 1945.
The Movie is quite light weight but has a powerful ending. I feel Fields was a natural actress, and this film shows just that to great effect. Bennett is more of a glamour puss really, with slight moments of reality and grit.
Both stars had nothing in common and did not speak off set. Gracie had never liked film so this was her last one after 14 years
The film has is a curio and therefore is uploaded for educational and historical purposes The film is public domain too.
I have uploaded a good quality version of the film, which has nothing to do with the official Gracie Fields lot. The first version has now been deleted, so hopefully you can enjoy this much better upload? A quite entertaining film.

    Lovely comment. And the reason I watch these wonderful movies, to keep my mind in a better place. This one only twelve years before I was born telling me what it was like for my mother and father, what they wore, the hair styles. the way they spoke to each other. The bravery, courage in the face of the enemy. Excellent.

    As a 90s baby it a honor to see movies that show true stories as well as wonderful actors. Us young kids who are able to enjoy and respect these films truly saw great treasures. I'll be honest, so far I love this and Molly and Me. I love black and white films.

War is not pretty look at the old “Life Magazine” circa 1950’s pictures of the halllicaust death camps war and killing races and religions is not 1990 entertainment 1990 generations do not have any wartime experience with war time life and hardships of those times. I do not think those coming after our generation will have much to say about us: Instagram, TV reality shows, the entitlement society, wokeness, the post-Christian British values, the rapacity that is prevalent in our civilisation has made us narcissistic, callous, anti good, unforgiving, rapacious, ignorant, arrogant, weird, intolerant, liars, unfaithful, brutal, pervert, envious, frivolous, etc. Since 2020, everything is being done to turn our world, the old world, upside down. Not that the populations of planet earth asked for a radical change. No, they did not. It's being pushed on them. What is being pushed on them? A dystopian existence. That's how we repay the courage of those who fought "for the freedom of the world", we are told, a world we can witness disintegrating before our eyes.

    @chachadodds5860

    @@peterblahut5106 That's a wonderful legacy for your family to cherish. It isn't so surprising that you were unaware of your Jewish heritage. There were some Jews, that survived the pogroms of the 19th Century, and the Holocaust, who emigrated to other countries, started their lives over, and who out of sheer terror, decided to hide their ancestry, often changing their names, destroying any existing documents that would prove such origins, abandoning the practices of their faith and culture, and even the ownership of Judaica. They often made family pacts, to walk away from, and never speak of their ancestry or experiences ever again. In their minds, it was too risky, but that decision left many of their progeny in the dark, not only about their ancestry, but their heritage of faith, as well. Often though, there are small clues within the family's daily practices and language, that belie the history. If your family has odd names for everyday objects, that are not recognizable in the English language; if there are family recipes, that were passed down from great-great-grandparents, that still bear non-English names, and no resemblance to American food, or are "From the old country;" if your family has traditions whose origins are not readily explained, these are likely remnants of your heritage. Maybe, this is part of your family's history. It's worth looking into, if you haven't already done so. And talk to the oldest, surviving relatives you have; they often know the family secrets that were never spoken of. That could set you on a fascinating journey of discovery. Shalom.

    Hello Chris Rogers, I must join others here in thanking you so much for sharing this movie. My Mother - may she rest in peace and Bless her Spirit - managed to survive the horrors that was World War II. She and all my Family on my Mother's side were from East Germany (as far as I know, all have passed away by now and many passed away during the war itself). My Great-Grandfather along with many others helped to smuggle Jews out of East Germany by way of the theatres. My Mother was merely a young teenager in those horrible times. When it was obvious what was left of the family had to get out of the country, she somehow got papers for her Mother, my Grandmother - may she rest in peace and Bless her Spirit - and Grandfather, and they escaped East Germany. My Mother and her friend were part of the Resistance, and eventually time ran out. They could not stay, so they risked their lives to escape the Wall. Death was a certainty either way, but at least death while escaping made more sense. Most who tried that night were shot and killed. My Mother and one friend managed to get out. Until the day my Mother passed away in 2012, she had shrapnel in her back from those times. Although this movie is very much a clean version of the profound horrors and devastation of those times, it is a quite good and well-intentioned film. The actresses did a beautiful job. Again, thank you very much for sharing this movie. Blessings... "Cap'n" Toni with my Coco and Maya Pups and All the Animal-Kids of the lil Haus... Pennsylvania, USA....

Thank you for your family sacrifice. People just don't know what it was like these young people just think the world is going to be perfect for them because they shoot they were not taught when we went to war in 2001 what war was about instead they went to shopping malls.

    Loved this film, stopped me thinking of all the bad news here in England! Gracie Fields was so different in this film, she normally had a broad Northern England accent being born in Rochdale. Thanks for uploading ❤️

    Anita so glad it took out of the terrible present UK, yes Gracie gave a good performance here, stay upbeat and enjoy "Molly And Me" on here by me another very popular Gracie film. Take care and thanks.

    Incredible! Produced by Constance Bennet! A woman's heroic story so well written and directed. Oh, how I wish women hadn't been pushed out of Hollywood when it began to make big money. Did you notice the pair of stove pipes making shadows on the building when police were looking for the flyer, one crooked, one straight? They made sure to include them in the backdrop as the couple were speaking later, and in the correct position! I've never seen a movie with that much attention to detail. Thank you, dear poster.

    I have not seen this gem before, I am very close to the ending: * * * * *'s for everything and everybody! Having said that, my comment has to do with the "Constance Bennett and Gracie Fields, both were coming to the end of their film careers": The entertainment industry (and the etcetera's) has wasted the talents and lives of far too many people who had so much more to give. I feel. Many thanks for sharing this film gem with us all.

    Interesting that in the opening credits Constance Bennett was at the bottom of the cast listing, though she was a very well known star. Since she produced the movie her cast listing placement was no doubt in her choice. Like everyone else on this page, I'm grateful to you Chris, for uploading this very enjoyable movie.
