You can watch this movie 100 times and notice something new each time. In regards to the Doof Warrior (the guitar guy): he actually has a very specific role in the war party. His vehicle is always behind Immortan Joe's because he uses different guitar riffs to convey orders to the rest of a war party, similar to a drummer boy in the 1800s.

George Miller actually explained how he shot this movie specifically so you wouldn't miss anything. Every time a scene ends, the next one "starts" at the exact same point on the screen. That way you don't waste one or two seconds looking for where to focus on.

Editor is Margaret Sixel, George's wife. She'd never edited an action film before which is why he wanted her to do it. Tons of symbolism in this, just like Road Warrior. All the older survivors have lost part of themselves. A loss of senses. Joe (taste / mouth), Bullet Farmer (sight / eyes), People Eater (smell / nose), Furiosa (touch / arm), Max (hearing....temporarily a few times in the film). The only ones who are morally clean are the wives. Even the Vuvalini have lost their home, which is more of a societal loss, though not explored in the film, George's back story for them definitely hints at them not being incorruptible in regards to how they treated those born male in their community.

I love what you said about the character development even mid-movie, bc that's such an important part of the movie that often gets dismissed. Max and Furiosa being able to trust eachother, to help eachother, to get a little redemption (😢😢😢), it's all happening as the action is going on! It's *such* a masterclass in showing, not telling. This is a movie that trusts its audience! Also, yes, Margaret Sixel did an INCREDIBLE job with this edit! SO much is going, every single frame is crammed with information, but the viewer is never lost! And her use of the centered framing! 😍😍 And the music!!! 😍😍😍

Definitely one of the biggest reasons this movie is as beloved as this is because of the characters. It had so much character work with so little dialogue. The world felt lived and the characters felt real. It is no surprise that Furiosa is the name of the new movie. She was the heart of this movie and without that amazing character this wouldn’t have worked nearly as well. It would still be praised for its tehnical feats but the characters make it the perfect movie it is.

I had the closest thing I've ever had to a "religious experience with film," watching this movie for the first time. I left work early, the week after opening, and went to a matinee. When I got into the theater, it was completely empty. And, as I waited for people to file in through the trailers...no one came. I got to watch Fury Road in a theater, BY MYSELF, in the middle seat of the middle row with the screen filling my vision and the sound just ENVELOPING me from those first bass strings. The first time I teared up, it was the spectacle of the reveal of that giant fucking sand storm. The second one was when Nux made his last, selfless act for love. The third was Max telling Furiosa his name, from a place of human connection and empathy he had thought long dead. This will forever be in my top five movies of all time, and George Miller has my complete trust. I don't know how, but I'm fairly certain this new movie will AT LEAST live up to Fury Road, and I am so ready for it.

The actresses who played the wives deserves so much appreciation for their acting. Given that the majority of them were models and Mad Max Fury Road were their big break in the film industry (especially the woman who played Cheedo, Fury Road was her film debut), they did such a phenomenal job. So happy that George Miller didn't used them just for a pretty face image, he actually gave them cool characters to work with

Best Of The Franchise with The Road Warrior and one of the best modern action movies with amazing action and effects. Theron deserved a Oscar Nomination. Hardy And Hoult nailed it as well. Can't wait for Furiosa And hope it captures what made this so good.

Of course Mel Gibson's Mad Max is very beloved and good, but I really like Hardy's Max. I LOVE how very little he says, how much we have communication without words and how messed up this Max is. The flashbacks, the absolute terror of his time as a bloodbag - I love it. And obviously Furiosa is amazing. What a woman!

I forget exactly where the video breakdown was but the standout tactic that makes this movie’s editing work is manipulating a single focus point, either fixed or in motion, across the quick cuts. For many sequences, notably the Max/Furiosa fight at their first meeting, the focal point never leaves dead center of the screen. For others, like the Rock Rider dirtbikes chase, any time the focus moves across the screen the edits preserve its location to the next cut throughout.

I believe the reason why there was tension between Tom hardy and Cherlize was because Tom was in character most of the time, so she got the wrong impression of him as being seemingly an abrasive ass but it was just him taking the role seriously.

No, It was because he would consistently show up to set hours late. The whole cast and crew would be all set up ready to shoot and then have to wait around for hours for Tom to show up. They ended up getting into a huge fight about it. There is a whole book written about the drama that went on during the making of this film.

@@Xionaga This is completely wrong. I know you fanboys like to cape for Tom Hardy but he was frequently late and wouldn't come out of his trailer. There is an entire book documenting the making of the film. Some choice quotes: Mark Goellnicht: I remember vividly the day. The call on set was eight o’clock. Charlize got there right at eight o’clock, sat in the War Rig, knowing that Tom’s never going to be there at eight even though they made a special request for him to be there on time. He was notorious for never being on time in the morning. If the call time was in the morning, forget it-he didn’t show up. Samantha McGrady (key second assistant director, Fury Road): Charlize is the easiest person to deal with in terms of, Okay, we’re ready. Sometimes I would just call her and say, “We’re going to be ready in an hour,” and I knew she would always get in the car, get her makeup on, and get on set. Tom Clapham (production runner, Fury Road): Tom was more in his trailer a lot of the time and would come out for the takes-and sometimes not on time, either. You’re like, Come on, it’s midnight and we want to go home.

One of the single greatest action movies of all time. Nominated for 10 Oscars and winning 6, more than any other movie that year. And one of the greatest soundtracks in film history as well, when you listen to the track Brothers In Arms while your on the road you actually feel like pushing your vehicle to its limit! Also Greg explaining how high he got is one of the many reasons I don’t do drugs of any kind, you might miss out on something as phenomenal as Fury Road while Goodbye Moonman from Rick and Morty is on repeat in your head.

1:01:15 Editor for this movie is Margaret Sixel (who is also George Miller’s wife). It’s said he partly wanted her to do it as she had never edited an action movie before and he didn’t want it to look like “all the other action movies”. True or not, she did a really good job! The film had a lot of footage to go through in the editing process and also has a quite high rate of cuts, as well as frame rate manipulations in many sequences. Margaret did receive an Oscar for best film editing for this movie and it was nominated for and won several others as well. 🎉

24:10 I think this is because seeing this in the cinema makes you so immersed in the visual language and audio experience that the character details can be overlooked. But at the same time, people who write fanfiction (yes I know, this is blasphemous to some) Immediately picked up on the character details in order to faithfully portray the quiet messages between Furiosa and Max, and many other characters later on. I think it's interesting how depending on your interest and background, you can focus and appreciate different aspects of this genius film.

I loved this movie. Mostly because Furiosa was the main character and was definitely a woman in control but also with passion. She has been really really hurt and is very jaded- but that doesn’t mean she is heartless- as much as she would like to be because it would just be easier.
