If I have 8 cords do I thread them 5 in each direction?

If you have 8 cords, I would put them in two groups of 4, and then tie the two groups as shown in the video while holding the ropes together. Hope this helps! 😊

What length rope should I use to make it into a key chain?

The knot stays secure as is. But a lot of people like to finish it with a gathering knot 😊
