MacLeay Island - Back Street Vistas - Part 1 of 4 - Australia

This video gives a glimpse of some of the quiet residential back streets hidden away in the timbered landscape of Macleay Island where you can escape the city and experience island living. A unique laidback lifestyle, a real sea change, can be enjoyed on the South Morton Bay Islands away from the rush and noise of mainland living.
Macleay Island is second largest of four inhabited South Morton Bay Islands, (SMBI) or 'Bay Islands' located at the southern end of Morton Bay near Brisbane in Southeast Queensland. The other three islands are Russell Island, Karragarra Island and Lamb Island. Passenger ferry travel is free between the islands. The high speed passenger ferries, as well as vehicular ferries, run regularly to and from the SeaLink passenger and barge terminals respectively at Redland Bay on the mainland from very early morning till late in the evening.
There is basic shopping for grocery, hardware, petrol etc. There are medical and dental practices, post office, state schools, small specialty shops, golf course, a bowling club overlooking Morton Bay, a pub and too much else to list here.

Thanks for commenting Nathan. I was on the Islands during 2018, 2019 & 2020 (6 months on Russell and 2 years on MacLeay. Things were changing during that time. I'm now in the northern Rivers region of NSW. I understand the rate of change has accelerated since I left. You might find the islands have changed quite a bit since you were there.

I no longer live there as I moved to Northern Rivers region of NSW, but I hear there has been an increase in development of the islands. I hope they don't get spoilt. Thanks for commenting. :)

It was quiet at times but I understand that since I have left the island two years ago things have got busier.

Thanks for your comment Bazza. Apologies for my delayed reply; I've been crazy busy. Alas, I'm no longer on the islands. I wish I had recorded more footage while I was living there.

Your filming is beautiful. I love the plants and birds etc. You video slowly enough to be able to see things. I cant wait to visit. It looks to be such a beautiful place. Google maps dont do road trips around the Island, and other videos race so fast you cant see anything. Thank you.

@@gavinhartmedia thank you so much for this imformation. Being a bit isolated would not worry me. Shopping is not a favorite activity; gardening is. Living in the Dandenong Ranges at the moment, mossies are the normal. Midgies are another story. I dont like them one bit. I would think long and hard about a move there. My family are all up near the Sandgate area. I really appreciate all the information. I love the native plants etc. We will see how it all unfolds.
