[Ok, somehow this got really, really long. Long enough that I feel compelled to offer this out: just because I felt compelled to get it all down, doesn't mean you can't escape now. lol] So: first, it bears pointing out: doing some songs is, inescapably, Taking A Very Big Swing. Some, doubly so. "Mack The Knife" is arguably one in *three* kinds of ways. (1, has a *killer* iconic version that's solid gold, which, people will have right up front in their heads, demanding to be compared; 2) it's one of those like "Bye Bye Blackbird" (or "The Lady Is A Tramp") that has appealed to *ton* of greats...from Nina Simone, to Ella F, to Charlie Parker, to Joe Cocker....it has *that* kind of one-of-a-kind, 'simple-as-a-little-black-dress', mutt-that-you-can't-help-but-grow-on-you idiosyncratic, can't-say-what appeal......FURTHER raising an already high-for-mere-mortals bar..."Mack" is a similar "singer's tune, that, like, Ella Fitzgerald just has to take a swing at (she did). (I haven't checked, but it'd be cool if Aretha Franklin or Tina Turner had done "Mack")j. 3) On top of all that, you have to pull off the **vibe** of the song...which takes a certain deadpan upbeat kinda-theatrical "vibe" that borders on a what a decent actor puts into a focal theatre scene. And, among the teeming masses that that big swing & {{{'***whifff***'}}}.... I truly couldn't say which is more painful (speaking empathetically, not judg-ily): the 98.979% of poor clods that were not never in the running, not even in in the ballpark of the ballpark (let alone how big a swing it was, or that one was play...just big crayons that, where you see work & inspiration etc, they see A Great Universal Fridge where any spot with no misspelled stick-figured palsy-on-paper bearing their one-tone waxy goodness is a wasted space)...anyway...whether it's worse when no one is really surprised by a fizzle..when it happens with people that really genuinely *really* tried, that get the nuance & approached it wide-open & all guns blazing...& maybe you even *like* a lot about the result, but sometimes even then is just, like, a flat Sprite. (Tougher to take, when you know you have the goods...then again, on the plus side, any creative engine up to the task just wads that sh*t into the fuel tank, & like Tyson absorbing a haymaker to the face like it's a reminder alarm he set for himself to put his work face on lol. Getting crushed by the Huge Swing and A Miss doesn't even really sort out according to absolute magnitude of talent, necessarily...it's not at all uncommon for fairly-mediocre-overall creators to just line all the planets up right, & catch some lightning in a bottle. But you? You are just *ridiculously* talented...to the degree I've only met one other person that just, basically socks you in the gut with, "oh, yeah, THIS person was MEANT for this...I'm seeing a real gift that has been exercised, tended & refined into something rare, if not unique." Pretty unmistakable, when you're lucky enough to see it... even if it's decades between times that you do lol. It literally didn't take ten words out of your mouth before your talent just --well, it pretty much like some six-ton gorilla-like creature so massive that it EATS actual silverback gorillas like they were Cornish game hens just PUSHED OUT of my HDTV until where there was formerly living room space, there was now only Undeniable Tonnage of Talent. (and muffled meowing from my cat). This is getting pretty long... but I think it's important when something(er, an innate quality of someone's) has struck us as particularly and specifically special, about the most, sometimes only, meaningful form of thanks, to the creator, is, whatever **specifics** you can articulate about that appreciation: Stevie Ray Vaughan heard "man, you ROCKED tonight!"...& he as never un-gracious enough to say, "yeah, I've heard that exact, non-specific exclamation, which, while heart fellt, is about a specific and personal as barking, & if you *really do* dig me that much...why can't you be *specifc* enough to make me feel *seen* & not just idolized-almost-generically?" But mention to him that you heard that little piece where he stuck a HUBERT SUMLIN lick between a slice of Albert King & Hendrix, & his got-dam *eyes* would light up...cuz that was a special & personal thing to him that really thought, in front of thousands of people, was, in itself, a lonely experience...& deep in the underlying love that is what he *really* digs about playing out. Anyway: you declared that tune with an ease & poise & the kind of serene, centered, "full possession" of the material that comes across as an effortless glide... "effortlessness" that's only ever the residue of intense & enduring focus & application (plus a spark that no amount of either can substitute for),. (I'm a fighter, so the comparison that first occurs to me is, your first few moments in a ring with a Mike Tyson or a Sugar Ray Leonard (...one like a kiln with legs & the other like smoke with fenceposts coming out of it...): Some special individuals, when in their element, are just unmistakably in a kind of state of grace there. It's like a solid color among hazes & fogs. You inhabited this classic tune, made it your own no matter who else had remodeled it & lived there...& you ***kill*** it, woman. In not more than a dozen words, I could have bet the rent that I was looking at *new* favorite wiht stature to match the ones already up my pedestal(s). Really, really dug it. I haven't looked yet, but I hope you do "The Lady Is A Tramp", too. I'll definitely be looking at more of your work. Top fkn notch. A big swing: and out of the stadium it goes lol. Thank you. And, sorry again for the length (if you sat thru the whole thing): take it as a direct gauge of the impact of your accomplishment, and the messy job of trying to articulate it lol. Mark "Trouble Monkey" Collen [I've got a couple of songs in mind you might enjoy doing....hit me back if you care to hear 'em...& if this ten-page jabber hasn't cured you of any desire to hear another word I might ever utter lol.

Sweet like sugar
i love you
マック・ザ・ナイフは、なかなかいいのが無いと思うんだけど、 これはナイス。
*_FABULOUS, FABULOUS, no more words. What about a smile, though?_*
A very unique voice. Aileen sounds a little like the GREAT singers from the 50's + she sounds a little European. Either way, a GREAT singer.
Smile
