Didn’t happen; Savage got beaten by Warrior at Mania 7 and had to “retire.” He was replaced by The Undertaker!

The way Randy used to whip his head around like an overly alert bald eagle was so characteristically him. I miss the days when wrestlers had those unique, indescribable traits.

Randy Savage did not end up participating in this match. Rather, due to his losing the retirement match at Wrestlemania VII two nights earlier, Savage ended up wrestling as a face against Rick Martel in what was his true last match in the WWF. The explanation given was that the match was taking place as the contract had been signed prior to the retirement match loss. The Undertaker took Savage's place as tag team partner with Sergeant Slaughter for the main event at this show in Las Vegas.

You can see Savage and Sherri were a bit thrown off by Slaughter's betting odds mentions. These local promos are amazing to watch for their randomness.

Only in '80s / early '90s WWF could a drill seargent hang out with candy-coloured maniac and make it work as a believable alliance! I love it!

A year later they did a Hasbro action figures commercial for the ages as babyfaces by saying like this: Sgt. Slaughter: "New WWF figures got the power!" Macho Man Randy Savage: "Power of the WWF! Figures sold separately! Perfect?" Sgt. Slaughter: "Perfect!"

Sherri looks absolutely smoking hot here

The Sgt Slaughter heel character from 1990 through most of 1991 was a excellent character and Slaughter played the part very well. I think everyone knew that Hogan would be ultimately the guy that would defeat Slaughter , as that’s what generally happened during that period of WWF. I never saw anything wrong with the Character of Slaughter or the whole storyline because I knew good would prevail over evil…

Exactly, that was the whole point of Macho Man interfering at the Royal Rumble causing the Warrior to lose. Because Slaughter promised Macho a title shot and Warrior wouldn't. My personal opinion is that Warrior should have faced Macho and WrestleMania for the belt AND Hogan could have still "fought for America" in a non title bout against Sgt Slaughter.

Imagine all three of the Triangle of Terror teaming with Macho King Randy Savage (managed by Sherri), against the Ultimate Warrior. Off-subject, I’m aware, as long as Savage had the King gimmick (and especially was managed by Sherri), he was a heel (March 1991 is when he ditched this gimmick, after losing the career ending match, at WrestleMania VII).

Hulk Hogan equal 38 in Gematria. Oooooooooo Yeeeeeeeeeeah!

Fun Fact for all you "PEASANTS" and I say that LOOSELY, of The Kingdom Of The Madness: WWF Mega Matches from Coliseum Video, an Exclusive Profile on "Macho King" Randy Savage Notice both Savage and Sherri. They both cut a promo in this same background, minus Slaughter. Just after the WWF Royal Rumble 1991. I already found the identical clip. Let me know if you do, Dig It!

Savage did get his match. But it was only as a stand-in for Hogan. And this was after Slaughter lost the belt. He also defeated Slaughter twice.

@ItsStillRealToMe DamnIt when Hogan got injured during the early summer of 91. Randy Savage would replace him in House shows. He also would do the same for Ultimate Warrior when he no-showed a few of his matches against the Undertaker.

Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t Savage with Elizabeth in his corner wrestle Rick Martel that night in Vegas instead?

It was actually a TV taping but this match did not take place (Savage was replaced by The Undertaker). That match was actually released on the World Tour ‘91 home video.

@@Thekingdomofmadness I didn't realize Savage was originally booked in that. Saw that scrolling through WWE Network, and later on Peacock. Funny thing, guess the fans would have to wait for Mania 8 for Jake VS Taker, but the funny part, for a second time, Taker replaced Savage in the booking.

Shiek Savage would have been cool.

1 second ago I’m confused. If this event was scheduled for Tuesday, March 26th (1991) and WrestleMania VII was March 24th…how could the Warrior or Macho King be advertised since they’d be in a Career Ending Match two nights before this match? If the Warrior AND Savage were advertised…then the WMVII match to end a career wouldn’t make sense. I grew up watching wrestling in the 80s.

They don’t get into the specifics here but I would think the assumption is that either one of the two wouldn’t take part in the match (which ended up happening) or else they’d claim “the contract for this match was signed prior to the Career match” (which is what they did when Savage wrestled Rick Martel on this night instead).
