Like most Black people, in the diaspora, Trinidadians were West Africans enslaved to work the sugar cane fields and other enterprises for white colonizers. So, if you detect similarities in dialect, and even dance, it’s because their cultural heritage is African. Many Trinis do not know exactly from when they came, but no one would be surprised if their ‘roots’ traced to Nigeria or Ghana. Blessings to you!
