MACEIÓ'S ORIGIN

A clipping of the formation of the coastal village that gave rise to the capital of Alagoas, whose name was given by the Indians referring to the swampy ground, unfit for construction due to excess water. Hence the name: "What a slap from the swamp" which in Aboriginal language means Macai-ok. Over time the Portuguese language built the name of the city based on this toponym.
