Stumbled on this channel. And it was like describing every recent MacBook Pro disaster I've had over the last 5 years! I felt your pain and bravery. The two disk partitions separate code from data. Sometimes repairing just the os works. Other situations you have to nuke it to its birthday suit and rebuild it completely. Most of the time the complete refurbishing will yield a working system (until it happens again on some other edge). I typically keep a cloud, local time machine, and a carbon copy clone before I tear down. With that redundancy you can find an easy path to restore to last good state (or you hope it was a good state). A lot of time if I debug deeply I find something plugged into the Thunderbolt ports is failing and bringing everyone down. Good video

I have a macbook pro mid 2012, i use it only for safari. for weeks it works fine until it freezes and won't unblock even waiting for days. same when i have to turn it on, for weeks i turn it on and off, until a day i turn it on and it gets forever stuck on the loading bar. i do the SOS on the hard disk, and mostly of the times it has no errors. all i can do is restore factory it and reinstall the OS. can you please tell me where is the problem? is it just the RAM problem? so i buy a new RAM and everything should be fine?

When i turned on my mac , it booted into Mountain Lion just fine. But after a few mins of using it, the mouse cursor stopped moving and everything stopped working. I restarted my computer but it gave me a kernel panic. I tried booting into recovery and internet recovery but the screen froze when i tried to do anything hard drive-related(eg. Erasing disk, reinstalling macOS). Is there a problem with the hard drive or the motherboard? I dont know whats the issue. Pls help!

If you still don’t have it fixed, you did say yourself: It is part of the EFI, which the Mac will have to undergo a clean installation. You’ll have to get the installer from a different Mac to ensure that the issue doesn’t persist. Hope this helps.

There's a work around by using Terminal, but even then, I have the sleep/wake problem sometimes. I'm gonna try doing a clean install, hopefully it fixes it. I'm on macOS Big Sur now btw.

If this issue re-appears, it’s most likely a symptom of when you installed Big Sur back in July. Big Sur (for some completely random reason) rewrites stuff the BIOS when upgrading to it for the first time. This has caused many black screen issues on Retina MBPs and even sleep issues on newer MBPs. I’m assuming this issue started after you upgraded to Big Sur. I would advice caution before upgrading to it, you might want to wait a little longer than you usually would.

I was having this issue in a 16 inch MacBook pro with 1TB SSD and 16GB of ram. I had multiple genius bar appointments where they wiped the computer and said they couldn't recreate the issue. It kept happening at home and finally, on the third appointment it happened in front of the tech/genius bar rep at the apple store and that's when they said we can do 1 of 2 things. Since I had AppleCare on the MBP at the time and they made me go through 3 separate appointments for this one issue the Genius Bar manager/supervisor/lead gave me 2 options. Option 1 was to do an exception return and return it for my full money back, $2800 plus the tax(they didn't let me return the AppleCare), and option 2 was to swap it for a brand new 16-inch MBP. I took my money back and I'm so glad I did. I just used $1750 of it to purchase a MBA with the M1 chip with 8 core GPU, 16GB of ram, and a 1 TB SSD and Apple care.

Battery is worn out and only lasts a couple of hours, screen has some stuck pixels, and there's a big crack in the trackpad that doesn't actually affect functionality. But it still works, and it works well. Replaced the WiFi with an 802.11ac card and it runs Big Sur as well as any supported model.

It's the hard drive... probably you changed it for a NVME with the special interface. Just disable deep sleep (I think it called), and you will be fine, however when the computer is suspended will drain battery faster. Another approach is to replace the hard drive with one of the expensive that apple use (OWC sells those). The problem resides in the lack of support for NVME drives in the EFI, more modern macs don't have this problem, just the old ones. My MBAir 2014 13" have the same issue. I just turn off the deepsleep.

Erase Volume Group is like if you have multiple partition this shows up as a method of formatting your disks and simply get it ready for partitioning Good tip there Ken : if you think you can't reformat the drive or unmount the drive you can always reboot to recovery and try again.

OMG, I wished I had seen these videos or googled "Catalina crashed during sleep" before I upgraded my 2015 15" MBP to it. Tried NVRAM/SMC, reinstalled Catalina, Safe mode, ran diagnostic, etc... Going to try turning off the sleep mode hack.

The first thing that came to my mind, since it said EFI problem and you tested Big Sur, was that it was upgraded to a buggy EFI by the Big Sur beta

@@ComputerClan you installed a new SSD from OWC which has sleep and hibernation issues in 2013 and 2014 macbooks, however Apple updated the NVMe driver on this old machines in Big Sur so the issue doesn't happen anymore, that's why you didn't had this issue there

My macbook pro recently died. I found it in a garbage can and took it home and created a new user account and used it for many months. It had a large dent in the bottom casing and a damaged but very useable display. Everything else worked fine for a while. eventually one day didn't power on or display any signs of life other than the charging light . Replacing the motherboard is expensive so I've been trying to figure out the best way to restore it.
