My cat was like this - he wasn't mine originally, but he just kept coming around, every day, being bullied by the other cats in the road (street). Eventually I got to know, he's my cat, presumably his owners didn't want him, so the cat literally came back. He's now a very pampered gentleman and I still have to save him from the other cats! By the way, your pictures are beautiful.

If you count how many times the cat comes back, including the first time we see her, there are nine times! How creepy is that for a children's song

I love the way they've chosen to do all these wonderfully morbid children's songs, and your artwork complements the music very well.

NOSTALGIA ATTACK! I loved this song as a kid, the art teacher would take out her guitar and we'd sing this song at the end of class. It was my favorite then, an still is to this day.

The cat has a death wish.

There's two versions of this song... One where they're trying to kill the cat and one where they merely try to get it to a different location. Honestly, BOTH versions are pretty cool. As a cat-lover, the whole premise interests me. The line about the man blowing himself to pieces with the gun especially makes me wonder. I would NEVER hurt a cat myself, lemme make that VERY clear, but the whole premise of a song....... Trying to get rid of someone and constantly having them return.... As if some other force did not want them gone. Also, the art is incredible!

I've seen an animated version of the lighter song. It ends with Mr. Johnson giving the cat to a little girl, who loves the cat so much that it finally stays put.

The original is even darker as near the end of the song, the cat eventually dies by an organ grinder (it never did explain properly how the cat died by the organ grinder, but it died somehow) and even the cat's ghost came back. Creepy O_O

I remember learning this song in elementary school and the line "97 pieces of that man was all they found" is the only other line I remember besides "the cat came back", and I'm glad this song has that version of the lyrics to prove I didn't just imagine them 😂

@@bryanmoore3500 Oh, I'm flattered that you'd wanna buy those prints! And I mean, the original drawings are very small, a lot of them crammed together on some A4-papers, but maybe if I redrew them on the computer or something?

I had forgotten this song, but the feral cat I’d started to feed didn’t come home last night. It came home tonight and I just started singing this. It was hard to find the version I’d heard 50 years ago. ❤️❤️❤️

Illustrations are 10/10! I love that it's a he until the litter comes, then the last line says "she." So funny!

Brings back my childhood. Mrs. Hoover our music teacher would bring in spooky songs for us in 2nd grade and it seemed so much darker and scarier LOL. Great version.

Someone hit a button, triggers atomic Holocaust, the end is coming near and America is lost. But old Mr Johnson laughs with foolish glee, "finally that yella cat no longer bothers me!" ... But the cat came back, the very next day oh the cat came back, they thought she was a goner but the cat came back, she just couldn't stay awaayyy

The amount of times we would watch this in music class when I was in Elementary was insane and now that im older this song is so dark. No wonder that teacher got fired

In the early 60's I went to a folk music summer camp called Killooleet in Vermont. It was run by the Seegers, folksingers all, and this is one of the songs I learned there. It stuck to me right away due to its weird macabreness, and has stuck with me for the last 60 years. But there was a last verse we sang there that I've never heard anywhere else (maybe because the camp was run by the Seegers?). It went like this: "The A-bomb fell just the other day/The H-bomb fell in the very same way/First Russia went, then England went, and then the U.S.A./The human race was wiped out without a chance to pray/But the cat came back" &c. Anybody else ever heard that verse?

I have a cat like this in Grey colour.he is a stray cat and He always came back.we kept him he is part of the family now. I showed this video to my mother we Both laughed at it .verry funny video!

Something tells me, Mr. Johnson is actually in hell, and the Cat is a demon sent to punish him for an eternity by returning whatever he does to it, it just comes back.

An excellent version of this song, and the pictures only add to it. I wish there was an extra stanza just before the final, though. Something like about letting the cat stick around, since there's no way to get it to go. That little false happy ending would make the "Kitten Stanza" that much more powerful, at least for me. There's no ending for this cat, good or bad, and disaster follows it everywhere.

Actualy The cat came back is an old folk song. This group actualy are singinging it traditonaly. My father sang this song numerous times, rest his soul. I say props to macabre and props to you as well for the excelent artwork.

I absolutely LOVE this song. I've never heard this song or its original. I was told about this song by a friend that LOVES Macabre. I can't get enough, I play this song 9 times in a row every time. On the 9th rotation I meow uncontrollably after it ends lol But the cat came back........

The cat was dead all the time. Her first owner buried her on the pet sematary and that is how the story started.

At first, the ending picture spooked me. But now I kind of like it. Feels like the cat is saying "Ain't I a stinker?"

I went to look up the song and was disappointed when finding the other ones. This still isn't the exact version I learned (didn't have the bits after the train) but the end was essentially post Nuclear war, human race destroyed but the cat came back the very next day.

He probably recognized the eldritch powers he was dealing with and let the cat go and was spared. Or he was going far far away and no one bothered to look for him. Only the cat knows. This song could be made into a decent horror movie.

Hmm... I'm not sure which picture you're talking about, but I have one in mind. In the picture, were the killers lined up after one another? And was it drawn in this style? Because if so, I think I know which drawing it is. In that case, it can be found on Deviantart, in my gallery. :) - (sorry if the explanation sucked. lol)
